I want to install the newer version which shouldn't be a problem, however I want to delete the older version (yeah, I'm anal about disk space) so I went into programs add/remove and it isn't there. Next, I tried a search and it doesn't come up. It has to be somewhere because I am able to sign in and have the app show up. I am thinking this is a several mb application. Any thoughts or answers??

I am fairly sure that when it downloads a newer version it overwrites the old so as to not balloon your disk usage.

How small a size disk are you running that a 39mb program is going to cause problems?

The normal place for MSN Messenger is C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger
If you want to delete this before you install the new version, go to START\CONTROL PANEL\ADD or REMOVE PROGRAMS and remove Messenger first. That will delete some of the active files and clean Messenger out of the Start Up Menu and Registry. Then you can go to the Program Folder and delete the entire Folder.

There isn't any reason to do this unless the Messenger you have is not working because it's corrupt. The new installation will overwrite the existing programs and add updated entries to the Registry and Start Menu. Since the new version is a little larger than the old, disk space is not a concern.

I have a 20 gig hd. So the new overwrites, thats good. Thanks all!
