OK, I'm loosing my patience here and need a little help, please.

I do not know what this so-called 'feature' is called. BUT
when I try to put a line of some sort under the text:

------------------------------
or even

=====================

the bloody thing puts a hard line under erything like a "legal'' boundary.

I don't like it and do not know how to switch it off.
Can someone put me right ?

It's been some time since I've used that version, but I'm pretty sure you'll have to adjust auto-formatting options from the menus.

According to google,

"To permanently change the AutoFormat settings, go to Tools > AutoCorrect Options and click the AutoFormat As You Type tab." and take it from there. I don't have it installed, or I could probably have told you exactly.

Thank you.
I'll give it a go.
IS that what it is, "Border Line" ?

You need to go to "Format" in the menu bar, then select "Auto Format." In the box that comes up, select "Options." Then you will get another dialogue box with a lot of selections on the autoformatting, including turning lines of dashes into a straight blank line. There will be a tab in the Options box that says "AutoFormat as you type." If you select that, there will be more options (including options about the dashes) that you can toggle on and off.

I used Word 2003 until recently and I turned off a lot of that.

When you hold down say the dash key and then hit enter for a new line, you get the hard solid line, right? You should also get the little box with the lightning bolt in front of it. Just click it and tell it to undo it, and you'll get your intended key strokes back.

I had that problem and had to open the file in Open Office & reformat to RTF and then delete the line.

So far using Word 2003 and turning off all the
"Auto Fuck ups," has allowed me to work without distractions. :)

I noticed that problem in the file you sent me HP, so I just deleted it so my other RTF;s didn't get Word Cooties!

I think that's probably it, but not too sure. If it isn't, you can always go back into the settings and change it back to how it was. Hope it works!

Well, it sort of works but I cannot find a way of making sure that it does not happen again.
Auto Format does not have an entry for Borders or annoying text-width lines.

I could be wrong but I think the line-spacing might be a bit trickier, unfortunately. It might be setting it on a per-paragraph basis depending on which style or document template you're using...

I don't think borders are controlled by the auto-format. To turn off the auto-format for the dashes, follow the instructions I or jmace gave earlier about going into the AutoFormat settings. Once you do that and click "ok," the changes should stick.

I'm not sure what you mean about the text-width lines?

Goo d

There is a neat trick.
If youhave the formatting tab open,
Just click(double) the clear formatting.
I used it for formatted cut and paste. Automaticslly makes everything force to default default.

But yeah... turn off the autoformatting stuff, it's like bad sex and only takes a few mins.
