We've had one in Britain. The Canadians have one. Many other little countries have/have had one.

When is the USA going to elect a woman president?

Has there even been a candidate?

There have been a few candidates. Shirley Chisholm in 1972 and Elizabeth Dole in 2000, to name a couple. Geraldine Ferraro ran for Vice President in 1984, but Walter Mondale and she lost big to Ronald Reagan.

My prediction is that the first woman will be elected president in 2028. She's in her late twenties or early thirties now. She'll be a career politician and she's not presently in the public eye.

Female President

You'll get one when Hillary Clinton decides to stand:rolleyes:

Hillary is more likely to take the stand... ;)

True - but if she were Ms President that would make Bill "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" (yeah, right Billie) first Man - now there's a scary thought.

:)

Hillary may run in 2004 but she'll lose. The Democrats need a good candidate.

No, they need a sacrificial lamb and then a strong candidate for '08.

And the funny thing is, the lambs are lining up for slaughter.

I don't for one minute think Americans would be stupid enough to vote Hillary into office with the Clinton's track record to date and am sure there are some much brighter, more able women around. You might find a bright, hard-working and honest Female President very refreshing after some of your "interesting" recent choices;)

You sadly underestimate the voting American public. If Oprah were to endorse Janet Reno, she would get a huge percentage of the vote.

Underestimate or overestimate;)

It's just as bad here - the public will vote for whoever Rupert Murdoch tells them to via The Sun newspaper.

Politics never cease to amaze me!

John Kerry, John Edwards, Joe Lieberman, Evan Bayh, plus some smaller names. I doubt any of them can win in 2004 though.

This year's elections will be interesting. VERY interesting. Will America continue its slide into socialism or has America had enough of the Democratic class and racial warfare tactics? The pendulum swings, left, right, left,...

You're right, SIN. Then again, Oprah's demographics and the Democratic Party's demographics have a lot of similarity. I doubt the election outcome would be altered by Oprah.

Even Dashle is leaning towards putting his hat in the ring. I love Dick Armey's parting shot at him.

Eddie Haskell

Good point about Oprah. It's like Rush telling his listeners to go vote Republican.

Daschle's running too? OK, maybe the shorter list is of people not running.

Every Democrat believes that Bush Senior's demise will be mirrored by his son's demise. Every one feels that in light of 2000, that all they have to do is gain the nomination of thier party and then they will be a shoo-in. That is why they run. Not one of them belives that they could also suffer Mondale's fate. Too distant a memory.

If the military campaign drags on two more years, that could happen. If bin Laden and Omar are captured or killed soon, that leaves more time to talk about domestic issues.

In either case, lots of Democrats were kicking themselves for leaving the field all-but-wide-open for Bill Clinton during the 1992 primaries. They don't want to make the same mistake in 2004.

There is no foreseeable (sp?, hell, even a word?) end to this war. What will not change is America's resentment towards it's new lifestyle, and that will for a long time remain focused on the Muslim world. Again (quoting Carville, not calling you names) "It's the economy stupid." How much hay can be made there by the Democrats.

One collorary: I believe bin Laden to be dead already of natural causes. He will be kept "alive" by his followers. Omar too, may already be feeding the worms. At any rate, we will never bring those two to justice. Soon Pakistan may be more hostile to us as the wage war on India, so if they are hiding there, our choice will be to go to war on India's side, which the Chinese (and thier new allies, Russia) will not sit still for. But, I ramble...

I know we've never had a president. You know that too. So why should I go through explaining the difference between presidents and primeministers?

The difference between an American President and a British Primeminister was not relevant to the question I was posing.

Having a female President doesn't seem to be what most want to talk about though.

I'm talking about it. Hillary Clinton is the only woman with any chance of being President in 2005 but I don't think she can win. I already mentioned my prediction of a female chief executive being elected in 2028.

Damn I might not be around to see it.

But I can imagine it...

The possibility of a Republican and a female President!

My keyboard would have to be fireproof...

:D
