Flipping back and forth between Starship Troopers and Charlie Rose on PBS tonight, with Charlie interviewing yet another apologist for Hillary, I had some some thoughts.

Besides...we need a little political thread to liven up the place as we approach the 'Dog Days' of August and the US Congress heads for the hinterlands.

Besides the fact that Senator Hillary Clinton is the wife of former President William Jefferson Clinton, she is also a woman. Her nomination would guarantee that Republican's keep the White House.

If the nominee is Senator Barack Obama, a black man, America is not and may never be, ready for either a woman or a black as 'Commander in Chief'.

Enter Senator Edwards, yeah, right, not even a chance for the pretty boy.

Who, then?

A late entry for former Vice President Gore or Senator John Kerry? I doubt either.

On the other side, Senator McCain is too old and flawed. New York's former mayor is flawed, fatally, and Mormons and Money don't mix.

Looks like my prediction of some months ago, former Senator Fred Thompson and former Senator Newt Gingrich, is become more realistic day by day.

Still more than half a year before the Primaries...but still...

Interesting...eh?

Ami,

You have a late-night typo: Gingrich was, of course, a U.S. Representative, not a member of the Senate.

As for Hillary as CIC, why not? A lot of you "angry white men" claim she has bigger balls that her husband. Of course, he was CIC for eight years and not a single US serviceperson was killed in action--so we know what kind of wimp he was.

Besides, several women have lead their countries into war in the last few decades, including Margaret Thatcher in the UK, Indira Gandhi in India, and Golda Meir in Israel, and they have a pretty good track record. Dem broads can be touch cookies.

Chuckles and sighs...confess the Gingrich thing, wasn't thinking enough I guess.

"KIA" Killed in action, I suppose by definition you are correct, but many lost their lives due to Islamic Terrorism during his tenure and he did nothing of consequence, neither would she.

Thatcher, Ghandi and Meir, I have mentioned before in posts, she ain't none of them, more a 'social' person, a health care nut.

True, dem broads can be tough cookies, but not her, she's just a bitch.

ahm, my opinion.

Hilary lacks the charisma her husband had. Her speeches are very well written, but delivered without any passion. I doubt she will be the woman to break through the polical ceiling in America.

I have been much accused of being a misogynist, I really am not. When a woman of true 'statemanship' quality arises and, of course, has all her ducks in a row, then and only then will a woman occupy the White House as Commander in Chief and Leader of the nation.

Ok maybe its where I'm from (Clinton country) that is making this get under my skin. Maybe its the whole thought albeit that it might be true that a black man or a woman wont be in the white house. Maybe all the double standards are just getting on my tits today.

But most of all when you call a southern woman a bitch can you please lay out your reasons? I've met the woman and she did a lot for our state when she was there. And believe me the education system would not have gotten a d kick in the ass to move forward had it not been for her. Left to her darling husband I'm sure it would have never have happened.

Maybe she is a bitch. Maybe just maybe thats what it takes anymore to make it through all the shit to get to where you want to be, to break down the blockades along the way. Plus barring any respect I have for Mr. Clinton... you'd be a bitch too if you had to put up with her husband and his stunts. Maybe you have to grow steel balls to be able to take the kicking that we tend to give people when they try to get to be CIC. God help them if they arent that standard monster-ego white man who is ready to either fuck you over or get you killed.

And I know this isnt well thought out or even well said but I'm ill and grouchy and in a mood. Now I'll get the hell out of the political threads before my blood pressure rises. ;)

Chant (and yeah I know I'm going to get the wrath of amicus for this so I'll sneak in a  to maybe shock him into being nicer;) )

You have proudly proclaimed you are a misogynist, dearest ami.

I agree. The standards are always higher when you are the first of your kind to try to do something. On one hand, it's unfair. But on the other, you are the first person representing your group so you better do a fucking good job or you'll ruin their cred.

We screwed it up in Canada. A woman became Prime Minister b/c our's resigned -- unfortunately she never had the ovaries for the job. So now certain peeps can point at her example and say "See that's why a woman should not be in power."

Somehow, when I was nearly finished a reply to you, it went away...hope I can duplicate it...so, so...

No wrath here, Chantilly...., not by choice, but I lived in Arkansas and other areas of the South for quite a few years.

I also covered a speech by either Candidate or President Bill Clinton, I never met him but was impressed by his style.

I think the word, 'bitch' was unwisely chosen by me, but it was an emotional response to women of her type. I have met many before, and although I have not met her, her demeanor on television and news interviews raises the hairs on my neck.

Whether they be bank clerks or Librarians, social workers or waitresses, some seem to exude that disdainful attitude that demeans all who approach to less than human status. That is what I gather from her.

I think you might know what I mean, the kind of person who sees you as a number or a statistic and not a human being. I feel that from her.

I think the general public will sense that also.

I have been wrong before.

I somehow missed that in the news, whenever it was, I may have been in recluse for a while, which I do occasionally, or it was not well publicized here...dunno...

I do know with certainty that intelligence is where you find it, wrapped in Ayn Rand, Jean Auel, or Anne McCaffrey or even the Rowlands gal who wrote Harry Potter and I surely appreciate intelligence where ever I find it, gender notwithstanding...

Hmm, I might have to put that in my signature. :)

I'm not a Hilary supporter, but it would be fun to see all those who've applauded Bush's Imperial Presidency and the assumption of powers that are not Constitutionally given, shoot blood from every artery when Hilary gets sworn in.

I would have said the same thing... pre-Iraq.

A Republican candidate that is perceived as hawkish and it becomes a roll of the dice.

I don't care for Hillary, but it'd be fun to watch ami explode. :D

I don't want Hillary in office. I have stated my reasons for this to others and I will state them here now.

For nearly the last two decades two families have been running this country: The Bushes (sp?) and the Clintons. It was Bush Sr. for four years. It was Bill Clinton for eight. Now another eight of Bush Jr. And if Hillary is elected it swings back to the Clintons yet again for at least four and possible eight.

I oppose Hillary Clinton simply because it's time for a change. I believe that Barrack Obama has a damn good change of winning this election, and what meager support I can muster for the political dynamo I will throw behind him. Because I believe he actually thinks and isn't always trying to spew rhetoric and catch phrases that make people nod their head.

That disdainful attitude that demeans all who approach.....kinda hard to let that one go past. By your own definition, hmmm, what's your word for the male equivalent?

As for Hillary for president, my ONLY problem with her is that she stays married to a lying chickenshit who writes a book and goes on prime time TV to tell americas children that he cheated on his wife and got blow jobs in the oval office "because I could". If she divorced that useless garbage I might consider her views seriously.

As far as " CIC for eight years and not a single US serviceperson was killed in action" Bullshit

On Oct 3 and 4 1993 there was an incident he pretends didn't happen. And while accounts differ all agree that at one point he at least knew aircraft were down and american servicemen were in trouble as he left for a two day speaking tour.

When it was over 18 american servicemen were killed and over 70 wounded, the bodies of dead americans were dragged through the streets and the pictures shown on TV news around the world.

Clinton ordered americans out.

Two of those who gave thier lives were twice ordered not to go in, but seeing thier fellow americans hurt and in trouble, on thier third request they were given permission to go in. Delta Force snipers, SFC Randy Shughart and MSG Gary Gordon were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

These are factual records of what american soldiers did, and what one man who was supposedly thier CIC did.

Randy Shugarts father insulted President Bill Clinton and said he was "not fit to be commander in chief"

I think the man showed incredible restraint.

If Hillary Clinton wants to run for president that is fine, but until she divorces her husband I would not even consider giving her my vote.

And yes, yes, I know ya'll love Billy and think he is great. I do not share that opinion.

So you may tell me the same thing the wounded soldiers were told when thier CIC came to visit them in the hospital "keep your opinions about him to yourselves".

But as you know, sometimes my JMO is loud.

Why?

Just watch your CNN and Fox stations. That's enough 'livening up' for me.

You're a follower of politics, Ami . . . you know nothing is decided until the last minute. ;)

Beautifully said. :rose: I'd add my two cents, but I'm tired, have a splitting headache, and don't see the point. She would have gone up infinitely in my opinion if she didn't stay with him after Monica and all the others. I actually like her voting record in the Senate in general, but she is and always has been someone who plays to the audience. She started out as someone very impressive, but seems so calculating that you wonder if she really believes in anything anymore.

Hillary! Hillary! Yeah Hillary!

I could really care less if she's elected, but she can't do a worse job than GW has done in screwing up the economy, getting us into a rediculous war he was told to avoid, wasted trillions of tax dollars for nothing while giving his rich friends tax cuts and turned this country into the welfare system for Mexico at the expense of the American public.

I would, however, really like to see Bill Clinton as "First Lady" :D

Sorry for taking this to a lot more of a basic level, but I think Hillary would make a fucking HOT Commander in Chief!

I know she's anti-weed and everything, but I'd definitely like to play cigar games with her :catroar:

I think its time for a female CIC, and she would probably be good, and any wino on a street-corner could do better than GWB.

Bill Clinton did a lot of good, yes, but he didn't just make one mistake he made many.

She vocally stood by him when he lied.

She silently stood by him after that, when she knew he had lied.

By divorcing him now it would be viewed as a political move, but its the only thing many, including me, would accept. This country and that job cannot afford another (GWB) bunch of internationally dangerous clowns in office.
