Someone sent me these video files (yes, it's porn, if you must know) and this .mp4 format is twitching out my computer. I thought Quicktime would be able to run them, but that's not the case. Win 98.

Any suggestions on a free utility that could convert these to .rm or .wmv files? (WH, you out there?)

I don't know about converting them, but try here: http://www.3ivx.com/download/windows.html for the CODEC to update WMP to play MPeG 4 files.

If hat doesn't work, google "MP4 Codec" for other solutions.

Hmm, thanks Harold, upgraded my media player, but that didn't seem to do the trick. She recorded this from an iPod or some damn thing, no big deal. I'm not going to spend any time trying to figure it out. I thought there might be a utility program out there that I didn't know about.

Each video format has a "CODEC" associated with it. Sometimes it's proprietary and built into a format specific player and some times it's available as a system wide multi-media plug-in.

If you have an MP4 CODEC installed, WMP, Quicktime for Windows, and the DIVx player should all be able to play an uncorrupted MP4 file.

If you've upgraded your media player and have the MP4 CODEC, pehaps the files are corrupted and you'll never be able to play them.

As far as I know MP4 is used most ly by Itunes which autoconverts tings to that file format. It's sort of a next gen MP3.

You can download iTunes for free and should be able to run the files there.

Should be.
