See, there's this big stink over which town the GOP really was founded in .. frankly I don't care, but the GOP (I guess) recognizes Jackson, MI as 'the place'. The GOP Prez nominies always come to town at election time .. blah blah .. anyhow, nope- I don't live in Wis. Chey!

No wonder I was confused. The officially recognized birthplace is Ripon, Wisconsin. There is still a white, one room schoolhouse there which has a historical marker and the explanation of it being the birthplace of the party, the first meeting place of the Republicans. The first Republican convention was later - in Jackson, MI.
