Movies!

Enjoying re-watching Stranger Things and Good Omens with my love.

LOVED season 2 of Pose.

I've been watching older movies recently.

Double Indemnity
Vertigo
Mr Smith Goes to Washington
Funny Face
The Third Man
To Be or Not to Be

I also watched Bull Durham, inspired by this thread. And boy was it good!

On the TV front I'm watching a French series The Bureau (Le Bureau des Légendes) and it's excellent. I'm half way through season two now. All the thumbs up!

May I suggest a couple of side trips in this journey that i think you will enjoy? The works of Barbara Stanwyck and all movies directed by Preston Sturges.

Ahem...from the sublime to the ridiculous...

The Secretary
Underwater
The Odyessey
Princess Bride

I enjoy horror movies. It's hard to find people who enjoy them just as much as I do. One of my favorites will always be The Shining. I loved Doctor Sleep. Rose the hat was beautiful.

I enjoy all kinds of movies though. Truly appreciate old vintage movies too and 80's movies.

As for Netflix I love Mindhunter and Dark: Netflix Series.

Movie recommendations from you are always appreciated! :)

I'm especially interested in your reaction to Preston Sturges movies. Probably the most popular was The Palm Beach Story (and it is incredibly good), but my all-time favorites are The Miracle of Morgan's Creek and Sullivan's Travels.

Thanks! I'll see if I can't find these. :)

365 DNI on Netflix

Has anyone seen this movie recently out on Netflix?

It appears to be getting a lot of mixed reviews. I have not seen it, however, interested in comments from those that have.

[Background: This movie is based on a Polish Authors book. An Italian takes his girlfriend hostage for one year looking to get her to agree to marry him, there is BDSM and very realistic sex apparently.]

I've been watching The Bold Type, which is a series about three women in their 20s working in a fashion magazine.

I've really enjoyed it. It's just the perfect mixture of vapid fun and plot for my current state of mind. My brain is too occupied with work and other stuff. I need something like this for balance.

I'm watching Jonestown: Terror in the Jungle, which is a 4 part documentary series.

I think it's a pretty well made documentary. Covers more than just the gruesome things that happened in Guyana. It's all so weird though. I don't think I'm cultish enough to understand how something like this can happen. Or maybe I'm actually so cultish that this hits too close to home and I can't admit it? Who knows.

Interesting stuff, nevertheless.

I only saw one sex scene, didnt make it to the apparent good ones, it was too painful to watch. Terrible acting. Was a shame, i had high hopes lol

I went to movies today for the first time since January-ish. I was the only one there!

I saw Arab Blues, which is a movie about Selma, a woman in her 20s who grew up and went to school in Paris but now moves back to Tunisia to open a psychotherapy practice.

I liked it, it was an interesting look into a society where the old and the new are colliding. It was quite superficial and light, entertaining. Good for my mood. But it also showed many deeper and more serious themes that left me wondering and now googling to find more information about.

A few films automatically spring to mind...

A Beautiful Mind

Reign Over Me

The Notebook

Mississippi Burning

Crash

Several years ago, I had a part-time third job at a movie rental place (when such still existed) and figured out that me recommending movies just isn't a good idea when I suggested "Moon 44" for a kid's seventh birthday party who loved Star Wars, but his Mom just wasn't going to sit through that again.

In my defense, she was about to rent Wizards, which was, okay, a cartoon. But, was more "adult" than "Heavy Metal."

However...

Just finished watching "Polar." Not sure I would recommend it. A hitman is forced into retirement when he hits the big 5-0 as too "over the hill" for the job. But, then the boss decides to kill him rather than pay out his eight million dollar retirement package. It's... eh, somewhat "over the top" as it feels like a crossbreed between Frank Miller's "Sin City" and an 80s cheesy action flick, with "Pulp Fiction" acting as a surrogate. Or maybe a serious version of "American Ultra" minus the camp. But, if you've got Netflix and a couple of hours with nothing else pressing... I enjoyed it, but only because I took it for what it was worth with the Bond villain from "Casino Royale" and Vanessa Hudgens starring.

For campy Horror parody, I can recommend "The Babysitter" and "The Babysitter; Killer Queen." At least I laughed so hard I spewed popcorn at the computer and had to do a bladder check. Then again, if you duckers haven't figured out my sense of humor is questionable at the best of times...

I've caught a LOT of flack for this next one from various sources who I've sat through it. Not on Netflix, sadly, but if you can find it (I bought it on Amazon), and have a good supply of tissue handy, "Midnight Sun" might be worth a look.

Or "Sky High" if you are wanting something that is just funny with less... well, maybe not violence, but blood and stuff.

Last, but not least, if you either speak Russian or don't mind subtitles, and aren't dragoned out, I can heartily recommend "I am Dragon." First caught it a couple of years ago when I happened to catch it as a free rental on Amazon. Went back a few months later and rented it, wanting to watch it again. Finally gave in and bought it so that I could watch it whenever I want. A beautiful and well-told re-telling of an old legend.
