Here's the deal:
In this other (great) thread Perdita paid tribute to classic movie scenes.

So my mind started working on this and I thought about some movies that are truly 'characterized' by their themes or certain melodies, such as:

- The Godfather (El Padrino)
- Once Upon A Time In The West (The tunes Harmonica plays)
- The Excorcist (creepy music)
- Psycho (shower scene violine)
- Jaws (the classic)

Can you think of more ???

Visconti's "Death in Venice" - Mahler's adagietto from his 5th symphony.

Glad to have inspired you, Snoop.

Of course :)

Harry Potter? Hedwig's Theme is a modern classic, and I can't think of any other so called "children's movie" that has so much orchestra music in it. A great balance to MTV-nuisance.

A black and white classic, Brief Encounter - Rachmaninov's Pianco Concerto No.2.

Even after all these years, it remains high on my all-time favourite's list......the music and the film.

and.........

Children of a Lesser God - Largo Ma Non Tanto (2nd Movement, Bach's Double Concerto In D Minor For Violins). This piece has long been on my 'must have' list.

Chariots of Fire. Didn't especially like the movie, but that song is immediately associated with it (Can't rememer the name of it right now).

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - I can't recall the name of the music, but my old dog always used to howl when he heard it.

(That could also be an alternative title for the Tffa&c thread. I'm not gonna say which one is Abs, which is Charley and which one is me. :p :p :p)

A brief hijacking...

Lou, two friends and I went to a Halloween party one year dressed as the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. (I got to be the Bad).

I loved the part in Steele Magnolia's after Shelby's funeral where Sally Field finally loses it, it reminds me of when she was Sybil.

Gotta love Olympia and Shirley too!

Quilty, you're so gloriously mother-fucking cool.

Plus, you reminded me of the Ride of the Valkyries as used in Apocalypse Now (and dozens of TV commercials and cartoons).

P.

Excalibur -- Carmina Burana (O Fortuna)

The Untouchables -- Vesti la giubba from 'Pagliacci'

2001: A Space Odyssey -- Also Sprach Zarathustra (Ode to the Sun)

Ditto for the 9th, O Fortuna and Flower Duet from Lakme.

Star Wars has been brought up, I think Raiders of the Lost Ark is right there too.

and what does that say about Mr. Williams? remember, Jaws was one of the first mentioned...

Right. I do think "Ex Caliber" used it best, not to mention the perfect use of Siegfried's Funeral March and the Tristan 'theme'. After I saw that fillm the first time I wanted Boorman to direct The Ring.

As with Also Sprach Zarathustra, whenever I hear Blue Danube I can't help but think of 2001.

Rocky: Gonna Fly Now

Indiana Jones trilogy: The Raiders March (Indy's theme)

LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring: May it be

The Shawshank Redemption by way of Marriage of Figaro: Duetto-Sul Aria

The Breakfast Club: Don't You (forget about me)

Forrest Gump: Forrest Gump Suite

Superman: Main Title March/Can you read my mind

I would have liked to see a Chuck Jones directed "Der Ring des Nibelungen."--starring, B. Bunny and E. Fud of course.

more John Williams.....

There's no doubt about it, John Williams is definitely a master of memorable movie scores.

It's not John Williams, but how could I have forgotten to add The Entertainer from The Sting?!!!
