It's not so much what the article says, but what it doesn't say that concerns me. For example, is this inheritable? What happens when this is tried, and it will be, on tool making mammals?
It is the nature of science to push the boundaries to the limits, whether those limits are in the long term interests of humans or not.
While there is a group that is all up in the air over AGW, a long term threat if truly a threat at all, I would suggest that genetic engineering and/or intelligent automation (Artificial Intelligence if you will, although I contend there is no such thing as Artificial Intelligence, intelligence just is) are the threats that will ultimately do the human race in.
