Mother's Day

When I first married, I resented and feared my mother-in-law. Fortunately, we moved far away and both she and I learned to appreciate each other from a distance. Now when I see her, her annoying habits (and my annoying habits in her opinion, to be fair) are tolerable, and we get along well. I've learned to see a lot of good things in her. She's a strong-willed person and was the backbone of the family. It must be difficult now to be alone (she's widowed) now that her kids are grown and many have moved away. From her situation, I've learned to anticipate that one day, I, too, might have to be on my own and I should plan for that possibility.

So I wanted to add that, like GoldEyes, who has adopted a surrogate mom, that I wish the lonely moms out there a wonderful mother's day, too. Just because your families don't remember you on this day doesn't mean you didn't do your best at the time.

my mom was a very special lady
dang she put up with me
for years and years and years
and for those who know me
thats a huge thing
in itself.
just wished
it could have been
for many more years and years and years.

When The Lord Made Mothers

By the time the Lord made mothers, he was into
his sixth day of working overtime. An Angel
appeared and said, "Why are you spending so
much time on this one?".

And the Lord answered and said, "Have you
seen the spec sheet on her? She has to be
completely washable, but not plastic, have 200
movable parts, all replaceable, run on black
coffee and leftovers, have a lap that can hold
three children at one time, have a kiss that
can cure anything from a scraped knee to a
broken heart, and have six pairs off hands."

The Angel was astounded at the requirements
for this one. "Six pairs of hands! No Way! And
that's just on the standard model?" the Angel
asked.

The Angel tried to stop the Lord. "This is too
much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to
finish."

"But I can't!", the Lord protested, "I am so close
to finishing this creation that is so close to my
own heart. She already heals herself when she
is sick AND can work 18 hr days. "

The Angel moved closer and touched the woman,
"but you have made her so soft, Lord."

"She is soft", the Lord agreed, "but I have also
made Her tough. You have no idea what she can
endure or accomplish.

"Will she be able to think?", asked the Angel .

The Lord replied, "Not only will she be able to think,
she will be able to reason, and negotiate."

The Angel then noticed something and reached
out and touched the mother's cheek.
"Oops, it looks like you have a leak with this model.
I told you that you were trying to put too much into
this one."

"That's not a leak," the Lord objected, "that's a tear!"

"What's the tear for?" the Angel asked. The Lord
said, "The tear is her way of expressing her joy,
her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her
loneliness, her grief, and her pride."

The Angel was impressed. "You are a genius,
Lord. You thought of everything, for mothers are
truly amazing. Mothers have strengths that amaze
men. They carry hardships, they carry burdens
but they hold happiness, love and joy.

They smile when they want to scream. They sing
when they want to cry. They cry when they are
happy and laugh when they are nervous. They
fight for what they believe in. They stand up for
injustice.

They don't take "no" for an answer when they
believe there is a better solution. They go without
so their family can have .

They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally. They cry when their
children excel and cheer when their friends get
awards. They are happy when they hear about
a birth or a new marriage. Their hearts break
when a friend dies.

They have sorrow at the loss of a family member,
yet they are strong when they think there is no
strength left. They know that a hug and a kiss can
heal a broken heart.

Mothers come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how
much they care about you. The heart of a woman is
what makes the world spin!

They bring joy and hope. They give compassion
and ideals. They give moral support to their family
and friends. Mothers have a lot to say and a lot to
give."

also my mom was a good teacher

Thanks Mom...

My Mother taught me LOGIC..."If you fall off that swing and break your neck, you can't go to the store with me."

My Mother taught me MEDICINE..."If you don't stop crossing your eyes, they're going to freeze that way."

My Mother taught me TO THINK AHEAD..."If you don't pass your spelling test, you'll never get a good job!"

My Mother taught me ESP..."Put your sweater on; don't you think that I know when you're cold?"

My Mother taught me TO MEET A CHALLENGE..."What were you thinking? Answer me when I talk to you...Don't talk back to me!"

My Mother taught me HUMOR..."When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me."

My Mother taught me how to BECOME AN ADULT..."If you don't eat your vegetables, you'll never grow up.

My mother taught me ABOUT SEX..."How do you think you got here?"

My mother taught me about GENETICS..."You are just like your father!"

My mother taught me about my ROOTS..."Do you think you were born in a barn?"

My mother taught me about the WISDOM of AGE..."When you get to be my age, you will understand."

My mother taught me about ANTICIPATION..."Just wait until your father gets home."

My mother taught me about RECEIVING..."You are going to get it when we get home."

And, my all-time favorite - JUSTICE..."One day you'll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like YOU -- then you'll see what it's like."

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

The child asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth
tomorrow but how am I going to live ther being so small and
helpless?"

"Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."

The child further inguired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't
have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy."

God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for
you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."

Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to
understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?"

God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet
words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your
angel will teach you to speak."

"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"

God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will
teach you how to pray."

"Who will protect me?"

"Your angel will defend you even if it means risking it's own
life."

"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."

God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about me and will
teach you the way to come back to me, even though I will always be
next to you."

At that moment there was much peace in heaven, but voices from
Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am
to leave now, please tell me my angels name."

"You will simply call her, "Mom"."

Oh I LOVE that one!

To all the Mothers here on Lit...I hope you have a Great Day tomorrow....If you can't be with your own mother or your kids.....take some time and do something for yourself....you deserve it!:) :)

This pretty much sums it for me...

THE WISH
(Bruce Springsteen)

Dirty old street all slushed up in the rain and snow
Little boy and his ma shivering outside a rundown music store window
That night on top of a Christmas tree shines one beautiful star
And lying underneath a brand-new Japanese guitar

I remember in the morning, ma, hearing your alarm clock ring
I'd lie in bed and listen to you gettin' ready for work
The sound of your makeup case on the sink
And the ladies at the office, all lipstick, perfume and rustlin' skirts
And how proud and happy you always looked walking home from work

If pa's eyes were windows into a world so deadly and true
You couldn't stop me from looking but you kept me from crawlin' through
And if it's a funny old world, mama, where a little boy's wishes come true
Well I got a few in my pocket and a special one just for you

It ain't no phone call on Sunday, flowers or a mother's day card
It ain't no house on a hill with a garden and a nice little yard
I got my hot rod down on Bond Street, I'm older but you'll know me in a glance
We'll find us a little rock 'n roll bar and baby we'll go out and dance

Well it was me in my Beatle boots, you in pink curlers and matador pants
Pullin' me up off the couch to do the twist for my uncles and aunts
Well I found a girl of my own now, ma, I popped the question on your birthday
She stood waiting on the front porch while you were telling me to get out there
And say what it was that I had to say

Last night we all sat around laughing at the things that guitar brought us
And I laid awake thinking 'bout the other things it's brought us
Well tonight I'm takin's requests here in the kitchen
This one's for you, ma, let me come right out and say it
It's overdue, but baby, if you're looking for a sad song, well I ain't gonna play it

My mom.........she drives me nuts a lot of the time........she
criticizes me for different things.........but then there are the
times where we get along, talking about cooking, creativity,
etc.......I love her.......I remember when a guy friend of mine
from college committed suicide (him and i had talked only af
few hours before) back in '99, I was so despondent that I
remember coming home from work after keeping it all in, and
bursting into tears......my mom was right there with a big hug.

Also thankful that both my grandmothers are still going strong
in their early 80s, though they have their good and bad days.

No matter how moms can drive each of us crazy, deep down
we love 'em!

Happy Mother's Day to all moms out there! :)

My Mom just passed on this last November,so this will be the first Mother's Day I have ever had with out her. It hurts..a lot,but I know she is in a place where there is no more pain,no more heartbreak.
I just got an e-card from one of my daughters, thanking me for being her friend as well as being her Mother. It's a good feeling to know that Moms and Daughters can be friends and I'm glad I was friends with mine for many years before she passed on.

Happy Mother's Day!!

This is a interesting thread! Guess I came from a disfuctional family. My Mom and I were never close. When she wasn't at her part time job. She was passed out on her bed wasted from drugs. My Dad worked two full time jobs to keep every thing going. So I actually never got to know the man until he retired at age 65. I guess my relationship with him was respect for what he did to keep a roof over are heads. I never remembered ever hearing either of my parents telling me that they loved me! I left home as soon as I was able too.

If I were to credit anyone with Mother hood in my family it would have been my Mother's younger sister. She was not able to have children so I guess she took over as being a Mother figure to me. She bought me clothes, took me to the movies, etc. She has passed on. It's funny that my birth Mother never showed any interest in me were my Aunt did.

It was a very interesting lesson in life. I as a single parent I raised my beautiful daughter and my very handsome son. I remembered the hurt from the relationship with my parents and it provided the material to raise my two kids. They are grown and on there own. But I still tell them and show them how much Dad loves them....:)

Oman thanks this poem is beautiful! I wasn't going to post on this thread because it has only been 6 1/2 months since I lost my mom. But when I read that poem the tears started to flow and I just had to tell you thank you. I hope I am only half as good as all that to my son! ((((((((((((OMAN)))))))))

I think our moms must have gone to the same class, my mom used to say those too! My favorite was the last, and of course, I was quick to tell her she did not have to worry about that I was NOT having kids....famous last words! Well I was partly right, I did not have kids... I had one and made sure that there would be no more! lol.

Thank you all for the mothers day wishes, now its my turn to wish all the other moms out there a Happy Mother's Day!!

My kids surprised me this morning with something very special......they made there own scrap book of pictures of them the last few years and added different memories and stories of each picture.

Kids are great!!

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms of lit!!

My mother passed away in 1991 due to complications with chemotherapy. I was never close to her due to her being abusive emotionally. I was a sickly child when i was born and she had post partum depression really bad and she always felt guilty about having a child the was sickly. When she was dying I went to the hospital to let her know that I forgave her for the things that she had done but I could never forget them either. She died about a week later.

My father married a wonderful woman that I now call mom and she has taught me some of lifes greatest lessons that I am grateful for her very much.

I didnt really grieve that much when my birth mother passed. But I know that when my stepmom passed it will be very hard on me because she brought into my life Love, happiness, joy and a sense of being. I love her as if she had bore me. I was the first one of the new family to be able to call her mom and I am always glad that she allowed me to be part of her life. I love her very much and I sent her a nice card and called her to tell her how much I love her. I pray that my late birth mother is in a better place and is regretting that she did not take the time to get to know me.

Happy Mothers Day to all moms out there on lit
