It seems Mother Nature doesn't care about the Super Bowl or anything else for that matter. The Mid West is once again getting hammered.

Therefore as a gesture of goodwill to those stuck in the dreary frozen areas let me help by sending you some pictures taken at the beach today. (Sorry about the lack of hot bodies.)

I'd post a picture of my back yard but three feet of snow (one meter to the metrically literate) is so depressing...(sigh):(

I understand Stephen55. I lived in that weather for too many years.

Oooo! Pretty beaches. I love those sorts with rocks and beach combined.

Sunny but cool on this coast.

CHICAGO — A winter weather colossus roared into the nation's heartland Tuesday, laying down a paralyzing punch of dangerous ice and whiteout snow that served notice from Texas to Maine that the storm billed as the worst in decades could live up to the hype.

Ice-covered streets were deserted in Super Bowl host city Dallas. Whiteouts shut down Oklahoma City and Tulsa. And more was on the way. Chicago expected 2 feet of snow, Indianapolis an inch of ice, and the Northeast still more ice and snow in what's shaping up to be a record winter for the region.

Snow No!

Whoa! Nice pictures, Cat. I was on the beach Monday and it was beautiful. It hit 80F today. Helluva contrast. You midwesterners stay warm and safe, y'hear? ;)

Check this NOAA Picture.

Huffpo Chicago has a whole section on the storm.
Looks like the Clouds are several thousands of feet thick. I read where Oklahoma was closing down until it was over.

Heck, the same storm hit Vancouver, Calgary, skimmed Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, and maybe Ottawa and Montreal. That storm is a monster!

Dayum! Those look like shots of the Ross Ice Shelf. I'm glad I'm not under that!

Seacat, I think your doing pretty good in Fla.

I heard about Dengue Fever showing up in the Keys?

That's some bad ju ju. I had that in "Nam

We may not be getting as much here in the Detroit area, but still predicted a foot or so. As of 5 a.m., there looks to be about 6 or 7 inches on the ground already and according to the weather reports, snow isn't letting up until late morning or early afternoon.

On a side note, due to the weather my employer felt it safer to close up shop today and tell everyone to stay home. Some people drive nearly an hour in normal conditions and I guess the boss man figured since it was likely over half his employees wouldn't show up anyway, it'd be better to shut down. The president of the company has NEVER closed down because of adverse weather. At least not in the 17 years I've worked there he hasn't.

Of course, we have to make the time up, but at least those of us who drive a little farther (my drive is about 25 minutes under normal conditions) don't have to worry about putting ourselves at risk for our job.

Thanks for the pictures, Cat. Makes me wish I lived somewhere warmer. I'm getting sick of Michigan winters.

To everyone stuck in the snow, ice, etc: Stay safe and warm.

We were suposed to get hammered here in Toronto, but looking outside it looks like we got hit by a fluffy pillow instead. I've seen far worse.

I haven't ventured outside yet, but from the looks of things, we didn't get much more than the 6 - 7 I reported about earlier. At least not in my area. Now areas further north of me (I'm about 30 miles west of Detroit) got hit harder.

I watched the weather radar this morning and there was a 'pocket' of dry weather that passed over a large area south and west of Detroit so we didn't get nearly as much.

I like this weather. I'm snowed in, but we didn't lose power. I'll be curling up in bed with my wife and watching movies for a large part of the day. And other things if I can get the kids to piss off long enough. :)

Send them out in their snowsuits and tell them to build two snow forts and then stockpile enough snowballs to have a three hour long snowball fight. Make sure they understand that the snow fort with the most ammo gets an extra portion of hot chocolate.

Yep,

We've had confirmed cases of Dengue as far north as Miami. (With one confirmed in my county:eek:)

Right now we're dealing with the Shark Migration so there's no diving offshore for a bit. (They follow the bait fish north.) This afternoon they were showing video of the inshore area off our coast and it was just filled with sharks.

I went diving in the Intercoastal where all I had to worry about was the drunks in their boats and on their Jet Ski's. (I limit the danger from this by diving in places like under bridges, there all I have to worry about is people trying to hook me with their fishing lines or wanna be punks dropping rocks on my head.) I saw some beautiful fish and one incredible Golden Moray.

The weather has gone crazy

Amazing to read about people getting buried under so much snow and ice.

I come from Queensland, Australia. Three weeks ago 75% of the state was literally under water including the capital which experienced the worst flood since 1974!

Today the north of the state is being flattened by a cyclone that covers half the state and will likely dump up to a meter of rain in some places as well as 200km/h winds.

Crazy crazy world
