I know this has been asked before but didn't find anything with a search. Which are the three or four most popular categories, in order of popularity ?

Popularity by readership? I would say Incest, Loving wives(although that's attention you may not want) from there I would say Mature, then maybe group or Romance.

It really isn't a matter of what the most popular categories are in my eyes.

I'd rather ask myself which are the 3-5 categories that interest me the most to read stories. My tastes in erotic fantasy fiction will no doubt differ from the next person's tastes.

I think the category of the stories that are most viewed would answer your question near enough. You could go to the Top List for "Read" (https://www.literotica.com/top/most-read-erotic-stories/), tally up the story categories for top fifty or hundred or whatever stories and see what shakes out from that. Unfortunately, the list doesn't show category on the menu. You'd have to open them one by one to find the category. But I think that would give you a pretty good handle on the answer to your question.

Thing is , most of the top 100 ( which is as far as I read) are over 8 years old , most even older.
I don't think this is very indicative of daily readership .

Doesn't have to be a problem if you want it to be of current stories (or any time period you want). The stories are dated by posting. Just include the range of dates you want in the sample. The question is about popular categories, not popular stories. The best gauge to that is the relative number of views/readers.

Depends on your goals. Post in comfy cats if your goal is self-expression. Post in well-read cats if you want to grab eyeballs. Post in hostile cats if you want comments. For fun, post in a tottaly inappropriate cat and see where/if Laurel moves it.

Depends on definition of most popular.

Most eyeballs reading stories? In my limited experience incest and loving wives. Most comments? Loving wives but there not all nice ones.
