Yep it's that time again and if you go look at the thread in the Awards and Contests board, you will see that once again the award is in danger of becoming a popularity contest for people who, as far as I can tell, have little or no connection to poetry or this forum. I'm not casting aspersions, just calling it as I see it. If you love this forum and the people who support each other here, please take the time to nominate someone you believe deserves this award because of what they write and how their activities as a poet influence you. And don't forget to vote! There are at least a few folks here who are truly deserving of the award: don't forget them! You know who they are!

:rose:

I've never even heard of those folk......going to check out their poetry now.

Thanks for the "heads up" Ange. :)

Looks like

a mutual admiration society... one name nominating another for poetry and then vice versa for sexiest character, etc.

I have never heard of the people nominating and Bulltlr as a poet is fairly average. They are definitely not a best poet candidate in my opinion.

Good is a relative word; maybe a lot of relatives?
reminds me....oh never mind

"Most Influental" has always been a bit of an odd category. Some want to nominate and vote for good poets. Some for active, helpful and encouraging poetry board participants, and some for otherwise influental/popular Lit members who also happens to be poets.

Ideal would of course be a combination of the three.

I have been anything but active in -10, but I've been lurking about. I'll add a nomination to the pile when I've given it a minute.

I can't figure out how this person wound up with this nomination. They actually only have 6 poems listed and never comment or appear on the discussion board. I smell alts.

Given the quality of the poems (I had to look, I'd never heard of her) it's not all I smell:)

Really? I find that lines like
I feel your dick
butt up against
my asshole

Slowly you push up
my sphincter well
lubed and relaxed
you slide in

There is pain but
no more than when
you took my virginity
make me completely forget about Sappho and Neruda, or other poets known for their erotic verse.

I mean, I'd vote for her, but I am known to like classic forms.

I nominate Tzara. His poems (or ditties) are smart, intelligent and witty.

I've lurked occasionally of the last year or two while I've been busy destroying my career and always find Tzara's humour and wit worth taking the time over.

Good to see you back sir, I have been a big fan of your poetry in the past.
How have you been?

The timing is amazing! :p

Hey, you poets, all you poets, are the best. Don't let some people who only care about the title and/or the prize take the award away from someone who really deserves it! So many of you have put time in helping each other and working to grow as poets. It would break my old heart to see it go to someone who hasn't put the time and effort in. I know Liar is right: it's an oddly titled award and can be interpreted a few significantly different ways, but still. Those of you who've been around and active all year know who the real candidates are.

Got my vote, even if there are no flights to Zimbabwe.

Sorry, gm, I just spent my last hundred trillion on bogusagain. I could, though, offer you an in on a sweet deal with a former Nigerian official, if you aren't too stuffy about laundering funds. I'd just need your checking account number, so I can deposit some 100 million USD. You can keep 5% for your trouble.

Got my vote too! Where's my hundred trillion????

Aw, geez.

How about five billion marks

and an introduction to a corrupt African offical? Hell, I'll even throw in an excellent counterfeit 1909 Honus Wagner baseball card:

I mean, it's not exactly 100 trillion Zimbabwean Dollars, but damn it's a lot of zeros.

Should count for something, hey?

Fairs, fairs, Tzara,
I did notice a tiny bit of wordplay with butt, and sphincter is spelled correctly, something I could never master

How about this.......we hold our own friggin' M. I. Poet Award? It's very suspicious when the nominator has one or two posts under his/her belt - it smacks of an alt created just for the purpse - perhaps even the "poet" nominated.

Does this happen in the other categories too?

I voted for Chippy. She works hard, is a good poet and all round decent human. She contributes.

So this is the nominations? And then the vote comes later? Is that how it works?

Is it a blind ballot or...?

I think there are some good nominations, and I will vote, but I would prefer a secret ballot.

That's my understanding of how it works.
I recall a similar situation last year, but not sure what happened.
The parent page lists current nominations and last years Last post seemed to be early Feb, 2010.
Then a poll in which has a post date of 9-12-2010 - I don't recall voting then.
UnderYourSpell came in 1st
