Gurbux Singh was the head of the "Commission For Racial Equality", a department of UK Government, with the aim of promoting racial harmony.

The old boy goes to watch the England versus India cricket match in London, gets drunk on a couple of bottles of wine, barges into a Policeman, calls him numerous four letter words and then resorts to fisticuffs.

Said Mr Singh is arrested, pleads guilty to disorder and is fined £500. He also resigns as head of the commission for racial equality.

That news article made me chuckle, but now it seems the Government are giving the guy a £115,000 pay off!

Possibly for having the good sense to resign and save the CRE further embarrasment?

No saying that justifies the pay off but it may well be the reason given in due course.
