I would suspect that most people here see the presidency as the Wizard of Oz. And he or she is the most powerful person in the world. But the real power is in the congress. At least the purse strings are. I'd feel more comfortable with that stiff prick Al Gore as president, even though his loss of the election was like Miami losing to Slippery Rock in football, as long as the legislative branch was in conservative hands. Which it would be without an untimely death. In 200 days or so, we'll go the polls again. The entire house is up, and one third of the senate. Historically, the party out of power gains seats in an off year election. But we are in very strange times.

Its nice to have the executive branch as one party and the legislative branch as another. Sort of an extra check on government to keep people from running crazy.

I would like it to stay this way as long as they don't get to the point that they can't compromise. Most of the Clinton era was like this and thats why he could never get anything done.

So, you'll go on record as saying Clinton did not get anything done...

(well, almost anything...)

just, for the record...

I was teaching on just this topic in my government class last week, trying to get across the idea to my soon-to-be-of-voting-age students why it's so important for them to vote in congressional elections. I hope I managed to convince them. I detest apathy among America's voters.

I detest apathy in CONSERVATIVE American voters.

I, on the other hand, would like to actively encourage all DEMOCRATIC American voters to get out and get your fair share of apathy before the evil CONSERVATIVES grab it all up for themselves. [HINT HINT]
