Excerpt from the Daily Mirror story about the president saying he could have won a third term:
Obama said in an CNN interview published Monday that he might not stay on the sidelines and let his successor have the spotlight all to himself, if Trump's presidency raises 'foundational issues about our democracy.'
He seemed to be firing a warning shot that while he has no immediate plans to be vocal as a former president, that might change if he thinks the Trump administration threatens his own values.
George W. Bush has repeatedly declined to comment on Obama's choices, many of which unraveled his policies.*

Fortunately, we don't have a democracy to worry about foundational issues for.

I really, really hope that he stays vocal. Off teleprompter and off script.

The adoring press will happily accede to whatever the king wants.
The only way it can get better for the Republicans is if Bill de Blasio throws his hat into the ring and is the front runner for president.

He could always go back to community organizing...whateverthehell that is.

Retirement never shut up Henry Kissinger, and it really should have.

He likely could have and why should he be silent?

The same reason George W. should, and did, remain silent. His job was done, his time was up. Someone else is president, and joining the chattering class is demeaning to former presidents.

W stayed quiet because he was universally despised at the time. I think it's a duty they have to speak up but I can at least respect your point. I just don't think Bush could help anybody at the time.

Sorry, but Bill Clinton, Geo. Sr., Reagan and Carter remained largely silent, especially immediately after leaving office. Ditto for Ford, who was otherwise in the news for beaning hapless spectators at celebrity golf and tennis events.
I'm hard-pressed to think of any substantive input from any of those figures after they left the White House.

Obama is definately in a position to help. ...the Republicans. He is great at getting out the Republican vote. As long as he is not at the top of the ticket he has no effect on Democrat turnout.

He ran on his "vision" in 2014, saying that his policies were very much on the ballot, and he campaigned for Hillary as a continuation of his administration. Voters said, "we like you fine, we reject your policiies."

Three out of every four electoral votes from voters actually advertised to, and campaigned for, went Trump. His message did not sell, and wont sell except for the 172 deep blue EC votes that would vote for a pardoned Blogovich for President as long as he has a D after his name.

This is a right-leaning country that personally liked Obama, not his policies. The country was screaming no to Obamacare in 2010. Dems have lost seats every election cycle since and they continue to think that the popular Obama means his policies are popular.

Can I just take this opportunity to say...THANK YOU for saying that! :D I got a good chortle out of that one, Ms_Ann. I remember so well Obama's supporters scrambling, during his initial bid for the White House, to come up with something to recommend him for the job in lieu of, you know, qualifications or experience. And they came up with...what?! Community who? I remember scratching my head, like most Americans I'm sure, and asking your very question: What's community organizing? After eight years of Obama, I still don't know. I doubt I will after he becomes UN Secretary General, either.

Obama assumes Hillary, Biden, Warren, and Bernie wont make waves and news. They will. But in 3 weeks he'll cease to matter without the means to make things happen.

I remember this one. When asked for what made him competent, we were told that a successfully-run campaign was all the proof needed. Of course, they are kind of amnesiac about how low the bar was set for their candidate...

The rest not doing their duty isn't actually a reason for Obama not to. And none of them left office with OBama style numbers regardless.

People are celebrating Trump tearing up the landscape, even you to a certain extent ("give him a chance"), not being a "typical" president elect. Why should Obama be expected to be a "typical" former president?

Haters gonna hate. Alt-right fucktard haters gonna hate more, demand unicorns and IEDs in their politics, and keep snorting ketamine (for the nightmare hallucinations). Expect further boiling spews of fucktard bullshit.

GOPs and Trompniks will be very unhappy if their God-Emperor is treated as Obama was. Fuck them. Decapitate them and shit down their throats. Payback is inevitable... unless Dems are such pussies that they don't bother. I don't really expect much resistance because Dems ARE pussies. But I'll do what I can.

Still angry!

The more things change, they more they stay the same...

I bitched about Bush for six years, and through all that time the Republicans on this board never trashed me the way the Democrats do now that "their guy" is "in charge."

They were angry when Bush was President, but they seem even more angry now that Obama is President.

Maybe it's just disappointment.

Maybe, it's who they really are and have been all along.
