From the Old Farmer's Almanac:

FEBRUARY 20-21: total eclipse of the Moon. The entire eclipse can be seen from eastern and central North America. The Moon enters Earth's umbral shadow on February 20 at 8:43 P.M. EST, and the eclipse becomes total at 10:01 P.M. EST. Totality ends at 10:52 P.M. EST, and the umbral phase ends at 12:09 A.M. EST on February 21. The penumbral phase (only) will occur over western North America, at the time of moonrise; it will be difficult to see changes in the Moon's appearance.

Who's going to be Moon-watching with me?

We've got snow forcast and it's been raining since last night. I'd get awful wet if I watched the moon.

I'll be looking up that night.

Eclipses are always kind of magical.

There always seems to be some sort of lunacy (if you'll pardon the pun) that revolves around the time of an eclipse. This month is certainly no acception. It will be interesting to see how the rest of this month unfolds.

It's not just the eclipse, it's full moons in general. I hated to go to the track to race on nights with a full moon. The craziest and most bizarre things always happened.

When i owned a bar I threatened to stay closed on the full moons, people were just crazy and most not in a good way.

I will be watching, waking up my kids for it, too

I was born during the full moon, what does that say about me?

When I was born the lights in the hospital went out. I could ask the same question. :D

Well thats one way to bring in the Chinese new Year eh?

Dont forget your new moon wishes tomorrow night !

WRite them all down... everything you wish for desire yearn crave need want and more....

Then with the power of the full moon and an eclipse - rewrite your list (you might surprised if somethings change) on fine paper annoint it with your favorite scent or oil or both then from a candle (NOT A LIGHTER) set it affire. Using a feather fan or your hand (not your exhaled breath (which is considered the dying breath) waft the smoke over your body....kind of like smudging :) and ask that your wants, needs, cravings, desires yearnings etc are granted.... scatter the ashes of your list to the wind so that the energy is cast outward to bring you what you have asked for....

Its works - for the most part hehehehe not everything you ask for is what you truly require so the universe has a way of keeping some things away :)

So I guess the answer after that long winded thing is yes... I will be moon watching!

Sounds very near an ancient rite my grandmother used to perform. I'll work that one this month.

Count me in--eclipses are fascinating. Our skies have been clear for weeks. Should be good viewing weather--especially with hi-power binoculars. :D

I am always looking for new and interesting ways to ritualize some aspects of my live.... Expecially using what some term lunar magic...

If you care to share I would be fascinated to know what Grandmother did?

Gran used to use the full moon to rid us of unpleasant things. An article, a token, even a piece of paper with the ill written upon it would be burned and the ashes tossed to the wind to rid us of whatever was bothering us.

I don't really know too much about it. She died just after I started taking my training. Gramps tossed all her books and notes on a bonfire, so it was all lost. So sad.

"Crime rate, all sorts of weird shit, always goes up on a Full Moon. What is it about Full Moons, anyway?"

"More light."

:D

OMG thats terrible... such a waste of knowledge...

And yes I have heard and done that myself. I am very ecclectic and mostly solitary in my practices. If it works and feels right I do it... if not... not. :)

I was able to finally set up my altar in my new place :) everything was built in multiples of 3 and 9 from solid red oak. So the new moon wishes are ready for their consecration :)

I have my SO to thank for that! Nothing like it take from Winter Solstice to Lunar Imbolc for it come into being. Makes for a more powerfully resonating piece. He built it for me as a christmas/birthday gift with me gving him shit all along that it was taking too long hehehe... Its beautiful and I am thankful and he will be getting his cudos later.

Any way... looking forward to the Lunar Eclipse... I'll bring the mead.

I would love to have my own altar. I think I need instruction on that, though.

So you're inviting us to watch the eclipse with you here? I'm not sure I have a long enough extension cord to take this computer outside with me. How 'bout we come to your house? What are you serving?
