At the end of may I'm gonna be in north Vermont, at some conference thingy at a hotel out in the woods.

Sounds like the plot of a B movie thriller, but if I don't get murdered, I'll have a free day full of nothing that I don't want to spend with a bunch of nerds like me that I don't know. Ah, the joys of being a heavy duty introvert.

I thought I'd excuse myself and take a quick touristy roadtrip to mt Washington, but it's unclear if the summit is open for visitors at that date.

My other option is to head north to Montreal, just so that I can tick off Canadialand on my globetrotter list.

Is it, like, a proper city worth checking out? Or would I be wasting my time?

Montreal is one of the most sensual cities in the world. The women show a real sense of style........Well worth a day and night trip.

Go to Schwartz's smoked meats and st viateur bagels if you go. There's nothing else to do there.

I'd definitely go with Montreal. It's beautiful, historic, the food, fashion and women are unparalleled. Going to Montreal is like visiting a European city. And don't worry, they love Americans there ($$$$) so you're guaranteed a warm welcome.

Definitely do go to Montreal, it'll be very fun, the clubs the casino, the culture, the food.

Schwartz is okay, but I think it's over hyped. However I could be misjudging it because I ordered wrong the one time I was there. I will go back someday and try it again to see.

You could spend a couple more hours on the road and go to Quebec City. I've been there a few times and will never turn down a trip to go back.

Montreal is a great walking city. Check out the Old Port and Mont Royal. Plenty to eat and see. Brush up on your French.

From northern Vermont, you will be about 90 minutes away.

Mount Washington area is iffy right now. A lot of roads have been washed away.

Sounds not too shabby. Walkable city centre, some good spot for a lunch and decent weather is all I need.

That's what I heard. That they might get a handle of things and allow people up around or just before memorial day, depending on the weather. Which is when I'm in the neighborhood.

I have never seen a city with so many restaurants, plenty of good food. Terraces are popular. Nice to sit outside and have a cocktail and some food.

Crescent Street is fun. Then there is the infamous St Catherine’s St. That is mostly shopping and Super Sex.
There is also the gay village, little Italy and China town. Depends what you want to do.
If you are US located the dollar is strong and the looney is weak, so it’s in your favour.

Mt Washington is a beautiful drive and I am sure the majority of roads will be fixed by the end of May. Big summer tourist area in the summer

Yep, but I ain't gonna bother (or rahther, come back some other time) if I can't get to the summit. And my busted back ain't gonna hike any long distances. If the road up is good to drive, I will.

Is it safe to Google what Super Sex is?

Super sexe is closed. Swartz is overrated. Crescent is for 18 yr old tourists with the exception of Thursdays which is milf galore.

What to do depends on what you like and how much time you got. Give more detail i can suggest. I'm there every week or two.

I also got a conference very near the woods at the same time as you btw, north maine tho

If you go to the west island you can visit the childhood home of the infamous Nipples Mcgee

Montreal is beautiful! So many things to see and do. Incredible restaurants, hotels, sights. I spent a week there about 15 years ago and have been dying to go back. It definitely made it to one of the top places I like.

Been to a lot of places but never been to Canada. Not entirely sure why either. It's not far from where I live, I got a passport, I like legal weed, hookers and maple syrup. Maybe some day.
Won't catch me in Vermont tho. Not even on a bet. I'm white and it's too white for me.

Nothing too fancy. I'm a low maintenance flaneur. And I'm only there over the day. Good eatin and pretty sights will do.

All right, you've updated from my b-movie slasher scenario to a Stephen King script.

Which day of the week would make generally a difference too... but..

Look.. First.. It's a shame if you don't have your breakfast there. True shame. Second, you are surely constrained by visiting sites too, so you'll need to do some google maps planning before hand; that may influence your choices.

There are the commercial/touristic ones, which are quite good even not to miss, those are downtown, and there are the artistic / more culturally brushed breakfasts..

The formers:

Eggspectation
Chez Cora
Allo mon Coco

The latters, well, this link does give a nice presentation: https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2015/04/11/breakfast-in-montreal_n_7042594.html#gallery/558672/1

Lunch:

The degenerate's favorite is poutine as you know. It's a shame not to give it a go. There's only one destination for that: La Banquise. It opens 24 hours too. Nice selection of beers. Get the white one.

For dinner, or other choices, this is restaurant city.. It's best you make a list then ask which is best :)

Sites: Mount Royal (Mont-Real), there a nice look out. Saint Josephs Oratory is nearby too. a Better lookout there.
Walking around on Montreal royal street in the areas crossing St Denis and/or Saint Lawrence streets (those themselves with nice walks too).
Or walking Saint Catherine street from atwater until Place des Arts.

Yes, you'll bump into strip clubs. Yes some start quite early, most as of 3 pm.

The breakfast places the EF suggested are good! But they are chains.

The best place for poutine is LaRoulette

The best place for smoke meat is Smoke Meat Pete's. Hidden gems.

I see why you're picked on so much. I could easily accuse you of being unable to read to being the worst tour guide ever.

But I would like to remain on your bad side. I still insist 'a go' with Lance & myself in my hotel's hot tub would start you off on a very lucid and exciting trail.

Contrary to the above.

And it's for posts like this why I'll forever refer to you as EternalFuckwit.
