Ever have a Money Pit moment?

lol.. i live near Punxsutawney PA {ie, home of the groundhog}...
as for the money pit moment..lol.. well.. my SO is overseas, and i moved home to be near family... theres not much to rent in this area... so we bought a house.... and currently i am trying to .......

* wallpaper the downstairs bathroom
* wallpaper the u pstairs bathroom {which is covered with at least 3 layers of wallpaper-- 2 of which are fuzzy!!! :::gasp!::::
* strip and refinish the kitchen cabinets
* paint over the green kitchen paint, with a sunny yellow {which involves primer - lots of it}
* strip and refinish my staircase....

all of which i need to have done no later than the 15th of this month... i leave on the 18th, to go pick up my SO {L5P} cause hes coming home for a 10 day leave. YAY!
anyway...
the money pit thing... back at thanksgiving, my neighbor had sewage problems.. well it turns out, that our houses {which were both built back in the late 20's} had our sewer systems connect out back of hte house, and it just went somehwere down the hill behind our house.. well to make a really long story short, the sewage instead of being sent away.. was backing up into his house... at the time i had myself, adn my 2 kids, and a family member and her 3 kids... lots of bathroom usage... this went on for 2 weeks before everything was figured out... ended up costing me $400 which isnt too bad, but it happened right around the time of my 5 yo's birthday, so i twas kinda tight :( it kinda sucked... but at least the problem is fixed now.......

My hubby and I are currently on the market to buy our first house... we had an offer on a house, but backed out at the last minute because we realized it would be the ultimate Money Pit. It needed loads of cosmetic work inside, a portion of the sill was rotted out, the addition on the back wasn't properly footed, etc. etc. We fell in love with the house because of it's character and potential, but luckily snapped out of it enough to realize that we'd never have enough money to give that house what it needed. So it's back to square one for us...looking at houses on a daily basis. Hopefully we'll find something that we can call home, yet won't suck up all our finances! ;)

Good luck finding what you're looking for! :)

Our house is currently on the market, but we're not having any luck so far. Maybe once the weather gets a little nicer. . .

We're hoping that the house we want to buy will still be on the market when our other one sells, otherwise we'll really be scrambling to find a place to live. It's a huge house (seven bedrooms, but we have four children), and it hasn't been lived in for some time. It'll need a new roof almost immediately. The interior has apparently been the same since the 70's, so we'll have shag carpeting and tacky wallpaper issues to deal with. We're figuring we'll have to redecorate one room at a time whenever we can afford it.

But it won't be an issue if we don't sell the house we're in.
