What are you using to keep your skin soft this winter?

Do you enjoy slathering baby oil and lotion all over your skin after a hot shower?

I just recieved some body wash and lotion called Zzz therapy by the healing garden. Silky pajamas (lotion) and Sleep well (wash)... :0) But baby oil rocks my boat as well.

I do home therapy.

Rock salt.

Vit E lotion.

Home made bath salts and oil. Mostly made of olive oil and rain water, a little beeswax.

Sigh....that sounds really nice. :) Wanna put it on for me? ;)

Well hmm, let me see...

Uh, yeah? lol

I've been trying to give out oil massages all week, but the roomie isn't buying. I think you'd actually be a funner project to work on.

I'd be funner too, and a helluva lot closer. But until then, oatmeal in the bath. It's a mess to clean up, but it works pretty well.

The home made bath oil sounds very soothing, I wish I had the creativity to think up things like that.

Oatmeal? I can just imagine sitting in the tub, feeling like a big bannana. :0)

Ok, I'm off to bed. Zzzz..

Darling I have tons of recipes.

I can send them to you if you like.

Recipes... you make it sound like cooking.... hmmm.

If you have any really easy ones I'd love to try them.

Hey Kotori? Put that oatmeal in some cheesecloth and tie it up and you'll get all the benefits without having to deal with it in your drain. Plus, the cheesecloth-wrapped bundle of oatmeal (hey, throw some epsom or rock salt in there too, while you're at it) works as a nice exfoliating "sponge" sorta like a loofa.

Plain old petroleum jelly and cotton socks keep my little piggies in top condition and smooth enough to play footsie.

I use lotion when I get out of the shower though.

Nora, I was just going to say that same thing. It is a nice organic 'scrubbie'. I have heard that oatmeal baths are good for itchy skin or as relief for poison ivy, too.

Baby oil would make me feel like I need to take another shower. I use Cetaphil cream, as recommended by my dermatologist.

OMG 99! Yet another example of us being separated at birth! I do the same exact thing with good ol' vaseline and white tennis socks.

Well, then I found the Burt's Bees coconut foot creme...*sigh* It just smells sooooo much better!

I have a couple of lotions I like to use: Lady Primrose (original scent) or Caswell Massey's lilac. Both of these are a bit pricey and I tend to go through a lot.

However, I found a really good all purpose moisturizing cream I adore. It's original purpose was as bag balm for cows. It's nearly pure lanolin, is quickly absorbed into the skin and non-greasy feeling after. It's called "Udderly SMOOth udder cream." I buy it at Walmart for about $4. It's my wonder cream. Guys like it too.

Of course we are soul mates, Sissy!

Except for that nasty habit you have of sniffing your feet.

I do love coconut fragrance - I wash my hair in it and I adore the smell of suntan oils. I better check out Burt's. Right now I use vanilla skin lotion. It smells so good. Of course, my feet are in my shoes so I can't provide any anecdotal evidence for that. ;)

Ooh, what shampoo do you use?

The only coconut thing in the Burt's Bees line that i know of is the foot creme, but it's totally worth it.

Their apricot baby oil is swoon-worthy, however. *sigh* Check their website www.burtsbees.com cuz they have an "outlet" on it where they sell off seconds at a fantastic price (who cares if the packaging is hooey?).

thanks for the tip. i guess if you used a sheep's stomach instead of the cheesecloth, you'd be half way to a haggis, too.

*kiss kiss kiss* Thanks for the link Nora. I love saving money.

Believe it or not I use White Rain Coconut Essence shampoo and conditioner. You know the brand. The one where 2 sisters (!) are together and one uses the expensive salon shampoo and the other (smarter, prettier one) uses White Rain.

Not that I am pinning us down to specific roles. I'm just saying. ;)

No, we are too much alike. I know you'd be using the same brand as I do and we'd be laughing at our friends who were spending the big bucks and not having hair as healthy and shiny as ours!

You know what's really fantastic? ... Curel.
It costs a little bit more, but well worth the extra dollars.

You can just feel your skin drink it up ... more of a rubbery feel afterwards though (rather than the silky softness of baby oil). Nice for nightime.

I thought those were Suave ads? I've used different formulas of the Suave, but not the White Rain. My hair's really thin and fine...like a little girl's. :( They just stopped making the stuff I'd been using for a while, and I'm trying different things, so I'll try that next. I like smelling coconutty!!

Yes, but if you add the veggies and offal, then you're talking about making stock, not a bath.

Oh. that's another good one ... Aveno makes a great oatmeal milk bath that leaves you feeling wonderfully soft and silky.

It was recommended to me by a doctor this summer when I had a bad case of poison ivy ... soothed the itch almost immediately, too.

Bathing & showering in hard water is a leading cause of natural skin oil losses. Have you tried Calgon, or something of the sort?
