Ah, the joys of the Internet; I think she was being sarky, you don't, either of us could be right. Ironically, in the post that sparked her private message I wasn't targeting Kajira because I didn't know she was even a mod at the time. So, yeah.

It is. I'm not sure where CM's got the idea it's about me keeping Jesus in the basement for two reasons - I don't have a basement and Kajira never replied to that.

I get that. Again, didn't know she was a moderator when I made the comment about the staff, so that's one thing. When I found out she was, it rubbed me the wrong way, I guess I just think that moderators should be a little more careful about the things they say.

No I agree, it's not. I don't think that "whore me out" cares much at all.

Personally I'd have thought the snark but posted "yo personals thataway." Much less amusing. I don't think what you did needs to not be done, but I do think it's good for it to be questioned in the open. You seem to be able to hold up to that OK.

I'm moderately protective of that notion. I don't think your witticism or Sir W's really rocked their world.

KC has, prior to being a mod, ALWAYS and consistently, argued for maintaining that sense of open-ness and being not a dick to new handles, no matter how weird or inane sounding. I find that admirable.

I won't tell them they have to stop and I might advise them of copyright violations, but I do not see why kink is sacred. Vanilla and boring aren't sacred.

Do you expect mods to change what they post or how because they are mods?
Why does it seem that mods are expected to not be who they were before they were mods?

I personally don't care how mods post. I expect their posting styles to be the same way that they ever were. That being said, the only thing I require from a moderated forum (and from the MODS) is that they do not abuse their position ie deleting posts for no good reason.

I think that's more kinda the unspoken board culture here. I can see the downside, but at the same time, the arguments here, while passionate, seem to be far more productive than those on the GB. It's a good culture, it works.

I've had great conversations in both places, really.

I attribute that to a thick skin and a long ignore list and posters like tortoise.

I must have those threads on ignore or something. All I see on the GB is a ritualized dance of insults between people who have their minds made up beforehand. I almost never get a sense of dialog or mutual respect.

A mod is anybody that an admin has gone into their control panel and clicked the various little thingies that make a user a mod.

How they behave is totally on the person doing the job, but given that anybody can start a forum and anybody can be a mod if the admin wants to make them a mod means that net-wide, the whole 'mod' thing means zilch and zero about a person's quality or personal competence.

So take 'em as people and judge 'em accordingly.
