Modem question

I've got a crappy 28.800bps dial-up modem. I also have a few softwares which claim to improove connectivity. ''Befast'', ''SpeedTec'' and ''Speednet'' are some of examples.

What these programs do is, basicaly, tweaking up itty bitty configuration, like:
MaxMTU, RWIN, TTL, PMTU, session, and NDI

Befast - 576//3216//64//discover//10//16
SpeedTec - 576//8576//128//discover//10//16
Speednet - 576//2144//64//-----------//60//16

Which one is the better configuration?

Since yesterday, my connection has been behaving oddly. When downloading data, it literally takes a breath (i.e. idle for a few to several seconds.) This didn't used to happen. Is it something to do with my computer or my ISP doing something shitty?

Don't mention ''ModemBooster''. I know it does its trick, but setting it up takes several fucking hours, so don't bother.

Okay, I figured out. It was the RWIN set up. I changed to 3216 from of 8576(Windows' default). It seems better now, though freezing up still happenes(I reckon my ISP is fucking something up)

Is it worth lowering value to 2144?

Well, you seem to imply that window default value of 8576 is too large for slower modems as 3216 is working fine fror you. If one follow the logic, it seems lowering still to the value of 2144 may improove your modem performance. I sugest trying that on tomorrow, so that you'll have emperical data.

However, remember, there is such thing as over-doing.

Thanks. Will do.

Looks like I've uninstalled softwares a bit too immaturely.

LOL. Thanks for pointing that out.

I must have subconscious fear for the word ''premature'' or something.
