Mockery erupts over photo of an incredibly decrepit-looking gun that the Toronto Police Service took '#offthestreets'

Social media users have been mocking a tweet that features the photograph of an extremely decrepit gun that the Toronto Police Service in Canada has apparently removed from the streets.

The @TPSGunsSeized Twitter account, which is described as the "Official Toronto Police account for all guns seized," posted the photo of a pistol that has likely seen better days — the tweet included text that read, "#offthestreets this week."

Mockery has abounded and the tweet has garnered thousands of replies and retweets.

Black people are two times as likely to have an interaction with Toronto police, and 1.6 times as likely to have force used on them, a report has found.

The report from Canada's largest municipal force confirmed longstanding concerns ethnic minorities are disproportionately targeted by police.

Police Chief James Ramer apologised on Wednesday for the "pain" caused by the evidence of biased policing.
"There is systemic discrimination in our policing," he said.
