On the off chance that some of you out there might like him...

I started downloading music on WinMX last week, and only just discovered Moby's stuff. Had heard of him before, but wasn't famliar with his work. I started with Porcelain and now have the following: Everloving, Evening Rain, Troubles With God, Whispering Wind, and We Are All Made of Stars, Flower, Killer, and The Ultimate Fuck (Sex) Song.

That's it! I must buy an album or two. No more mooching Moby. (Imagine that! ) Anybody have a good recommendation as to which one I should get first, keeping in mind that I prefer the more subdued stuff?

I'd start with Play, go to 18 after that...

Same suggestion as Lance... I have both... I prefer 18 tho, its more "melodic" than Play.

Moby is the new king of sampling...

really like the way he appropriates past material

and re-uses it...especially old blues stuff:)

BTW

pick me up some

Frenchbread from Fishermans Wharf, wouldja?

:D

I have Play....it's decent, but I dont listen to it that often. I bought it just before his stuff was being used on every commercial at the time, and I got burnt on Moby.

Did Moby have anything to do with Great White?

I wonder if Ishmael would know?

He does, in fact. Moby is a descendant of Herman Melville.

I did not know that.

Oddly, my first impression of that fact is the sound of Sean Connery's voice saying, "We named the dog Moby."

Thanks! Nice to see so many responses. Silly of me to assume that not many people here would be into his stuff. You know what they say about assuming- makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me." Bwahahahaha! (yes, I know it's an old one, but I like it)

I think I'll probably get both Play and 18, but probably 18 first, since Deja happened to mention that its more melodic. I suppose that's what I meant by "subdued." The fast-paced stuff that leans toward techno is good, but more mood-appropriate for a dance club than how I usually feel at home.

Phrodeau- LMAO. Luv the Indiana Jones reference.
Funny that Moby is related to ol' Herman. His middle name is actually "Melville." It's not just a pretentious affectation after all!

Eagleyez-
Alright, frenchbread it is. I'll have to be stealthy though. French things aren't that popular these days. (But I bet everyone is still french kissing when they think no one's looking.)
