How many of you out there own a mobile phone and if so would you say that you adhere to the rules dictated by mobile etiquette? i.e:

* Don't announce in a loud voice that "I am on a train!"
* Don't go through all the ring tones in public
* Don't use an annoying ring tone
* Don't talk about mobile phone tariffs
* Don't talk in am unnecessarily loud voice
* Don't chat to someone on the phone when you are eating in a restaurant with a friend.
* Do turn your phone off when in school, college, theatre, etc.

P.S. "mobile phone" is english for "cellular phone"

Hey, great thread flagg!

I know exactly what you mean about mobs. Aren't people awful with them!! I've got one but I always try to be considerate of others with it!
I sure hope others post their views on mobile phones!

Flagg, er I mean Anon...

Hi Flagg,

I own a mobile phone and mostly definately follow those rules. Don't even get me started on 'inconsiderate' mobile phone users.

The other night at the movies some idiot's phone rang twice. And she answered it TWICE. And TALKED during the movie. Luckily, some of the other patrons threatened to tar and feather her before I did. But to even be so unaware of what she was doing.....

grrrrrrrrrrr....makes me a grouchy old wizard....

We own one, and definitely follow the rules.

I was at a piano recital a few weeks ago, and some cretin left his phone on. It rang in the middle of the Chopin Funeral March, and the cretin proceeded to answer it and explain in loud tones that he couldn't talk.

I believe someone whacked him with the program, but I wasn't close enough to see that, just hear the thwack.

That was me! And it wasn't the program, it was my shoe!

Just kidding, although sometimes I would love to whack people who are rude with their phones. I have a couple more rules for cell phone use.

Don't use the damn phone in the bathroom! I don't want to hear that!!

Don't use the phone while driving! It is unsafe and you could hurt somebody!

Don't use your phone in the store. Any store. It's rude and inconsiderate, and makes you look like you just can't live without the phone!

That last one is just what bugs me. I'd bet others are not bothered by this.

Well,I have a cell phone, and have to admit that i have used it in a fast food restaurant, but that was because I was on my lunch break from work and I really had to talk to a friend of mine. I'm a busy girly ya know.

Have you seen that commercial where the guy is at the opera and is talking on the cell phone really inconsiderately and the woman singing throws her spear at him and manages to spear the phone? It's hilarious.

And that ring tone thing is REALLY annoying. I was going home for Christmas and was stuck overnight in the Chicago airport the day before Christmas Eve and was trying to get some much needed sleep in the terminal. This stupid jerk decided to play all of his ring tones over and over and over on his phone. For HOURS. I could have killed him. I think it would have been justifiable homicide, don't you?

OK, I cannot stress stongly enough how much Mobile phones piss me off! I think they're a great tool for business and for girls who need them when they go out to feel safe, but other than that I find them to be the most annoying devices on the planet! What the hell could be so important that it can't wait until you get home?!

ALL of My friends have mobile phones, and only two of them can afford them. The rest got them to play the snake game, and send dirty text messages to each other. One of my friends spend a whole night Messaging his girlfriend at 20c a pop instead of calling her and saying it all with a 5 minute call. He paid the price though, the message session cost him and his girl around $11 each! And they were both at home! Phonecalls from home cost 20c! Untimed!

Another friend managed to score in the 1300's on the Nokia 5110 Snake game. Time well spent. If he could reclaim the time spend on that, he could have gone out and found a job and bought himself a playstation and 20 games!

I hate mobile phones, and I highly doubt you will ever see me with one!

Oh, no -- it bugs the living hell out of me, too!

I worked in a shop that specialized in women's spirituality. We did our best to keep the atmosphere very peaceful, and then people would come in with their stupid cell phones (it was West Hollywood, after all) and would start yammering. Most of them were calling out -- I never understood that.

One woman went into a hugely dramatic scene, breaking up her marriage/relationship/agency agreement -- who the hell knew or cared -- and ended up screaming. I threw her out, telling her to take the damned thing outside and stay out.

Then, of course, I had to completely clean out the atmosphere of the shop . . . a witch's work is never done.

I confess

I am the owner of two mobile phones, one for work, the other for personal.
I do however stick to the rules. There is one more rule I add to the list.
When it rings, turn off the ring immediatly.. I hate hearing them ring and ring and ring when you know there is a call there and you cant answer it.. turning off the ring does not answer or cut off the call!http://smilecwm.tripod.com/cwm/angry.gif

The only sin I'm guilty of is having an annoying ring tone. It does have advantages, though - at least you know it's yours! Three or 4 of us were sitting one night when a phone rang - and we ALL started rummaging to try and answer it!

My pet hate is people talking - loudly - on their mobiles on the train. "I'M ON THE TRAIN. I'LL BE HOME IN 10 MINUTES." Well, shut the fuck up and talk when you get home, then! :D

I hate the guys who use their phone at Blockbuster to check in with their wives about what movie they should get. Have you noticed this trend? "Hold on honey, let me read you the back of the box..."

I just want to grab the phone, throw it into the documentary section and scream "Be a MAN! Pick a movie!"

At the grocery store the other day, and this is not a joke I swear!.... This guy was in the pasta aisle and at first it appeared he was talking to himself... but upon closer observation, one could see that he had one of those little headsetes attatched to a cell phone that was clipped onto his belt and was apparently talking to his wife or something b/c the conversation was something along the lines of:

"No honey, they don't have that brand all they have is, "generic, skinners, barboro, ......."

pause

"okay, so do we want the low sodium or... "

"right right, okay"

I mean, geeeeeez...... he can't even do the grocery shopping.... are women's sphere's really all THAT defined even in the year 2000!!!!??

Strangest encounter I ever had with a cell phone was while running a mini-marathon. Out in the middle of nowhere and we all hear this ringing. Guy answers his phone and says I'm doing a mini-marathon, I'll call you when I'm done.

General rule where I live is - never to talk on the mobile while eating out.

Purely practical reasons - pussy juice wreaks havoc on the contact pads beneath the buttons.

But in my neighbourhood everyone has one - de rigeur or the drugs trade would be dead.

all i have to say is drive and stay off the fucking phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rosebud, let me get this straight. You don't like cell phones? Or you don't like driving? :D Or are you trying to say something else?

Just teasing you....cheers

haha merlin...let me put it this way...all you people who think they can drive with their phone attached to their phone attached to their ear should have that phone shoved up thier ass

LOL. Rosebud, I was just teasing because of the passion of your post......Read my previous post on here....

I agree with you 100%...Cell phones are the most irritating invention in my lifetime....

i am in management in our grocery store and you should see the people that come in there with there phones...there was one woman who was tremendouly big and she had a damn headset on just so she wouldn't have to use her hands and have them available for food intake.....by all means i am not thin but i am talking pure laziness...and if they would just realize how stupid they look talking to noone........aaauuugggghhhhhh :)

I also have a cell phone, actually it's the only phone I have. But I do stick to the rules. Actually I don't always have it with me when I go out. If I go out to eat or to a movie, I just leave it at home.

ShyGuy

PS. Jade it's good to see you again. I've been wondering where you've been.

I have a cell phone supposedly so that clients and other members of the firm can contact me if/when necessary. Don't have the foggiest idea where that thing is. I figure if they are that important to me, they will probably know where I am. If it's a client who is in jail, they aren't GOING anywhere. They will be there when I get home and check my voice mail!

Damn. thought this was gonna be a thread about my lovely home.
