Another Sunday night at home
another goddamn night alone
just doing chores and feeling
bleak preparing for another week

I hear that loud distinctive click
the Maytag makes well cause it's
sick: I'm too cheap to get it fixed
too cheap to bring repair folk in

and so must reset for each spin
but this time I do linger there at
the machine I have a book, I am
absorbed, I do not look but just

reset and standing there and
reading poem without a care
spin cycle starts, the Maytag
shakes, I go on reading unaware

pressed to the steel I read
and then I jolt awake indeed
this is ooooh goodnessake a
Coney Island laundry room

a new delight and hold on
tight goddamn better than
chocolatecake! Woohoo!
Okay. I'm settling down,

ahem thank god no one around,
I've got the cleanest clothes in town,
all my tension's been assuaged
and Maytag and I are um engaged.
