Mitch McConnell backs impeachment of Trump

"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell believes President Donald Trump has committed multiple impeachable offenses and is "pleased" at the idea of Trump being impeached and removed from office, The New York Times reported on Tuesday.

The Democratic-controlled House is expected to vote on impeaching Trump on a charge of inciting an insurrection on the US Capitol on Wednesday. This would make Trump the first president in American history to be impeached twice.

McConnell thinks that Trump being impeached and then potentially convicted and ousted from office by the US Senate "will make it easier to purge him from the party," The Times said, citing people familiar with his thinking. "

You know the sucky part of all this? If Mitch had done the right thing in '19 and got him booted out, Mikey would probably have won hands down, they probably would have kept the Senate and regained the House and none of this last six months would have happened.

Cocaine Mitch is both pragmatic and very political. I can easily see him concluding that trump has served his purpose and is now past his spoil date, especially after the trump insurrection.

Trump was past his spoil date upon his first impeachment and Pence would have been just fine with McConnell's program then. I think McConnell just screwed up.

Is it weird to think they probably might have still believed then that Pence hadn't as good a chance as Trump for second term?

They are driven by money. Corporations pulling funds for re-elections will turn tails quicker than any insurrection. The powerful and important MAGA voters mean nothing to them. Their tiny little donations only make Trump rich, they don't win elections. As if we needed another reminder of how horribly inept they are.

We'll have to see if corporate American will stick with their convictions. The attempted coup my hold some gravity.

How does he get convicted? Just curious. The senate doesn’t convene till the 19th. I haven’t heard Mitch call for an emergency session. Did I miss something?

The Senate trial will occur when a Democrat is the Majority Leader.
