Minors

Okay, this is just curiosity here, I've got no intention of writing or reading a story of the following callibre - just curious. Is it illegal or anything to write a story about minors (say, 15 year olds)?

Out of my own curiosity...

If you have "no intentions" of writing a story with minors in it, why did you care to know if it was legal at Lit or not?

minor paranoia

I understand why Lit. has a policy against stories about minors, but . . .

Jeez, just because someone writes a story with characters who are under 18 doesn't make that person a pedophile.

Most of us were sexual before 18 and reading a story about first times could be a really big turn-on, not because the reader wants to have sex with the teenagers, but because he/she remembers what the excitement/exploration was like. And what if some terrible, dark part of that person wants to have sex with minors?

Shit, Bob Dole was on a sexual commercial with Brittany Spears. Look at our adverstising, look at the clothes that are made for children. Look at the number of stories on Lit. that have 18 and 19 year old characters.

Its not like something magical happens on your 18th birthday that suddenly makes it acceptable for you to be attractive to adults. I realize the slippery slope/domino theory argument: if 16 year-olds are okay, what about 14 year-olds? But get off your moral high horse people! Our society has a major double standard that no one dares talk about.

As I said in the beginning, I understand why Lit., as an organization, has the policy, but I don't see why the topic is so taboo on the boards. Can we have an intellectual discussion about minors or is that just too politically incorrect?

It isn't that it is taboo, it simply doesn't belong here, in this particular board. What is there to talk about, really? Lit doesn't allow minors in sexually explicit situations to be used in their stories. Period. Speaking purely for myself, I think that no one believes that the age of 18 is significant when it comes to sexual development or readiness. I had sex before I was 18. The person I had sex with at the time was younger than 18. No one (I hope!) thinks that 18 is some magical number when pheromones kick in, people's 'Lets Get Laid' buttons get pushed, and they start copulating like bunnies. 18 is, however, the limit decided upon in the US, and that is the limit enforced on the story site.

As for discussing children on the boards, go wild if you want to. There are lots of sexual issues dealing with minors that warrant discussion, that is for certain. How these ideas would work themselves into a Story Ideas forum eludes me. Why discuss sexual issues and situations dealing with children when those same stories, if written, couldn't be posted here? If you want to talk about serious issues like children and sexual abuse or unwanted teen pregnancy, for example, I'm guessing the General Board is where you'd head.

re: minor paranoia

Okay, okay, my bad. Comment on wrong board.

I'm new at this and had that rant rolling around in my head for a while. I just don't think in nice categories/threads/etc. like this place is set up.

i'm with you these days the young ones are getting more than us oldies. Just ask the hospitals how many babies are born to under eighteen year olds. I've known off them beinging as young as twelve. None of which were being forced they wanted it no two ways about it. they can do it but we can't read about.

minors

Maybe this topic doesn't belong on the story ideas forum. But, it is a real issue with some real considerations.
First, there are many forums and sites where anything goes as far as age, topic, and content. If you can think it up and write it down, they will post it.
The issue with characters on Lit being 18 is a taste issue made into a rule by the owners of the site. I don't pretend to speak for Laurel or Manu. I think the reasoning behind the 18 rule goes something like this. A consensual sexual encounter between, say a 15 year old girl and a forty year old man could be a beautiful piece of writing. The same age range in Non-consent would be something different altogether. Allow under 18 in one, under 18 will show up in the other.
Let the discussion continue.
