I have a story I have written/started that takes place in the 1800's (pre-civil war time). The story involves a girl who is ALMOST 16.... I know Lit has rules about posting about minors, but during this time, the age of consent was younger than 16. Would I be allowed to share a story of a 15.75 year old girl in a sexual situation? I could easily change it to make her 16 at the time, but then that would mean changing her "Sweet 16" party later to a "Sweet 17". Plenty of places in the US have 16 as the age of consent. But the legal age doesn't really matter, as it's Lit's prerogative to set their limit where they want.

Okay, maybe we're talking at cross purposes. I was talking about legal age of consent and you may be talking about legal age to appear in pornography (and maybe fiction).

But even then it's not cut and dried. Many countries ban drawings of fictionalized minors but don't regulate erotic literature. Some ban erotic stories but make exceptions for works with 'literary merit'. Even when there are bans in place, the age isn't universally agreed on.

Literotica's policy is sensible in that 18 only will make the stories legal pretty much everywhere that doesn't outright ban pornography, but it's still not a 'most of the world' thing.

Laurel uses a bot that red-flags certain words. I think "teenager" is one of them. When words are red-flagged, the passages are reviewed by human eyes, but I still go and check already-published stories to see what's allowed and what isn't in the context of sexual activity.
