Is it better for you when you are reading it and can visualize your own characters and how they will look?
Is it easier to put yourself into the action when you are reading rather than seeing it?

yep, I prefer a storie without photos, drawings are okay sometimes, and I don't really like movies that much. Stories are much. Lots of fun to have someone read them to you.

i like both videos and stories. they are different, but both are good. it depends on what mood i am in. if i don't feel like putting too much effort into getting off i choose movies, but if i feel like putting in the effort to fill in the blanks for myself i choose written erotica. still pictures come in a distant third. they leave too much to the imagination on onehand and too little on the other. i also love that cheesy porn dialogue. nothing better than watching some pornstar actually trying to make the horrible dialogue and throwaway plot seem believable and fail. it truly is a thing of beauty.

I definitely get more out of reading than watching. It is easy for me to get suddenly turned off by something in a video, even if it is minor like a rash on someone's ass. Honestly, I spend more time laughing at these movies than enjoying them. It probably doesn't help that I've seen so many, they seem mainly the same anymore. Written stories have more variety and depth.

When reading, it isn't difficult to change the visuals to suit my own personal tastes. Definitely easier to put myself in the story, as I can make the participants just the way I like them. For this reason, it is better when an author leaves some things to the imagination rather than being too specific.

BTW Wicked, what is your answer to the question??

My answer is reading. I can put myself into the 'shoes', so to speak, of the female and really let my imagination run with it. I can set the background and pace on my own without it being dictated to me like in a movie. I can replay the scence I like best over and over faster than hitting the rewind button and waiting on it to get back to the point I'm looking for. Reading is much more stimulating to me than the movies because of all the little extras I can add in myself, given that not too much detail has been written. I like the 'mind fuck' much better than the visual.

I too prefer the written word, much nicer to be able to form your own picture of the scenes, and a written story will be so versatile, every person who reads it will visualise it slightly differently.
It would take a whole new film each time for that on screen.

I laugh at the vid clips with the piped music in the background, usually something classical for the 'actors' to perform along with.
I say vid clips because I've never spent money on porno yet and I never intend to.

The writers I like and the SOFT Porn that I watch (yes I said soft!) are for the same reasons. If I read it, it's because the writer knows how to work imagery ~ It I watch it, it's because the film maker knows how to work imagery.

I don't care for hard porn, the why has been pretty much listed by folks here. If I'm wanting to watch the sex act, then I go watch it between people who care for each other and don't mind being watched.

I really really hate professional porn films. Loud crap music, awful dialogue, very very poor camera direction and pretend tits plus half cut minges. The women are so bodily awful to my mind I wouldn't whistle at them in the street. At least in the 'classic' porn films from 60's to 80's (if anyone knows of anything downloadable from before then I'd love to know) the women at least have believable, everyday bodies.
Which is why I much prefer the 'modern' no story just straight sex, girl next door vids.

I even have problems believing stories posted here when the 42 year old (older ha!) woman still has the figure of an 18 year old. With modern corporate led fashion of what a good figure is I can't help thinking of underfleshed women with no arse and stick thin legs that have to be covered at all times.

So stories are a much better thing when read rather than seen. I've always prefered books to movies. You simply can't get the same anticipation or fall into the character's view if it's on screen.

I've come to the conclusion that the perfect answer is watching a couple (or a group) fuck while a narrator reads good erotica out loud.

The downside to reading erotica: bad spelling and grammar are such a distraction to me that they can leave me irritated rather than turned on.

The upside to reading erotica: I can get lots of mileage out of a well-written story. It will stay with me a long time. And if the story has almost no physical descriptions of the characters, even better. That way, I can visualize the attributes that I personally find sexy.

The downside to visual porn: stupid dialogue and bad acting can leave me cold.

The upside to visual porn: when it is well done, it can be HOT! Interestingly enough, I find that some mainstream films can do more for me than the pornos. Example: The Lover.

No, you aren't weird or strange. I use a movie for the same purpose you described; normally particular ones at particular counter numbers that have been tried and true. If I have the time to languish, my first choice is reading.

TBH I really don't have much experience or desire for mainstream porn vids - the cheezy music, looped sounds, bad acting etc. really turns me off and makes the whole thing seem fake.

I do enjoy solo vids tho - no music, no plot, no special scenes - just a girl, a sofa, some fingers... Unfortunatly there is a HUGE number of professional commercial productions that could be perfect, if they didn't disappoint by fading to black right and showing a copyright at the climactic moment. Or maybe I blinked and missed it...

At the same time I like the written word. It gets deeper under the skin, especially when it's believable and well-written, because it gives a third dimension to the action, and probably there's something else too.

I also like stills, mostly because I can make the story behind the picture at my own pace, and not have to worry about any disappointing endings.

I also find audio samples can be very arousing too, in the right context. To me at least, a full-lung operatic climax thru the headphones is a humerous turn-off, whereas some quiet girlie squeaks followed by a choked sigh would drive me wild...

I did read somewhere that male minds are more responsive to visual stimulation that female minds. In theory this applies to everything, not just porn, but I'm not actually sure how representive that data is. I've never heard of a guy using a mirror when he masturbates...
