Have you read this particular essay by Donald Hall? Whattya think about it? It's in his Claims for Poetry book and a few others.

I haven't. Is it worthwhile?

Edit: Oh my. Found an online version. It seems very interesting.
I particularly like Concentration on technique can absorb the attention while unacknowledged materials enter the language

I do like mindlessly pursuing arbitrary exercises day after day after day to see how things change over time...

And...

Energy arises from conflict

I find myself taking contrary positions on a lot of forums, for example, and I like the feeling of it... For me, conflict leads to something that agreement doesn't. Of course, agreement is nice, too, from time to time :)

I think of conflict as analogous to a sports competition in the sense that it holds interest... Or even like reasoning...

And this...

Every present event that moves us deeply connects in our psyches with something (or things) in the past

And that's just the first page LOL...

I found that interesting. Some good insights there.
I found it by Pabla's elliptic link (Lit has a program which cleans up posts, looks like .com. other than here, is one thing which is blanked. Seems to be run from time to time, rather than right away - I've seen some folks who seem to post just to promote some link).
Donald Hall is a name I dimly remember from university days (more recently Stewart Hall, whose potential fields course is the bane of UH geophysics graduate students).
Some of this essay will sink in and stay, I hope.
