another military themed thread got me thinking about the song letters from war, which is abuot a mom writing to her son, (PLEASE NO INCEST CRAP) and the operation dear abby which matches up soldiers and penpals sort of thing.

So was thinking a sort of odd match up, perhaps a soldier who recently discovered his wife/girlfriend/lover is cheating on him while he stationed abroad (any location works but perhaps a dangerous stressful location would heighten the emotional intensity) and she is over worked social worker whos conned into writing by someone...not quite sure how that works out. She starts with a simple care package, a local paper, (being from Iowa I like the 'Toons'), soldier has limited internet access which is used for video calls to family or something.

Haven't quite hammered out where it goes, whether he is injured and sent home, or goes MIA for a while, and the relationship would develope through letters and what she sends, perhaps he asks for a naughty picture and she sends him a photo of a piece of lingerie on her bed, being shy about sending a photo of herself, she's more of reserved librarian type, the kind of girl that doens't think she is pretty.

so eventually they would meet IRL which would lead to either a caring relationship if he were injured, or just intense sex if he'd been MIA for a while, and such.

I might write it myslef but I have a lot of things spinning out of my fingers...*L*

any further thoughts on making it plausible?

You have touched on a VERY sensitive subject for many of us formally deployed veterans. From my experiences I’ve noticed very few relationships survive the multiple expended deployments we now are experiencing. Despite all the ‘we support our troops,’ a lot of significant others find that they just can’t handle being alone and stressed for so very long and often and give up in one way or many ways. We all handle the stressors in divergent ways and often have moments extreme rage followed by depression with even mild bad news. This may be a Pandora's Box I'm not certain you’ll want to have opened after it is a little late. While there we tend to be self-centered and demanding of our loved ones back home and given to much boredom and horror while there.

so timing would be the difference between throwing the package into a wall, destroying the cookies and feeling amazed that a stranger cares when your lover has given up?

I already did this story. You're gonna get a lot of hatemail if you do it. It's not a bad story but like was mentioned it hits pretty close to home for a lot of guys right now.

Yes

You got that right and too close for me. In the not too distant future I will likely be living though it again.

To be fair though if you're getting hate mail it does mean you're being read. . .

So what should go in the care package. I was thinking cookies, a package of new socks, maybe a newpaper, or a sport magazine, and a simple letter.

On how the two can link up;
There are a few organizations that send mail to random deployed military enlisted. You could have that person randomly make a connection.
The USO disseminates a lot of materials to us just as we are getting on the planes (staging areas). Usually we are sooooooo overloaded with gear that very little can be taken that will make it to the ‘Sand box.’
Most commonly is by mutual friends. Sister, aunt, mother etc... mentions to your gal about not being able to keep up with bored and letter prolific loved one in the Sand Box. Your gal sends and introductory letter and a pen pal relation is born. While in Iraq, I averaged writing four letters a day. I received a letter (or something) in the mail about one in every six weeks.
NOTHING picks up a deployed military person more than happy mail. Nothing sends them to depression deeper then ‘Dear John’, bad news or no mail at mail call. Guys that don’t get any mail at mail call can get emotional and/or violent.

Care Package

So what should go in the care package. I was thinking cookies, a package of new socks, maybe a newpaper, or a sport magazine, and a simple letter.

Care package items that would be welcomed;
News that isn’t the BBC or CNN (CNN is known as the ‘communist news network’ to many of the troops). The BBC and CNN are the only news stations we ever had access to.
Magazines, novels, books, small board games, (card games are over-covered) of any type are appreciated and read by all. In my unit, the only person that got a lot of mail was a female nurse. I never before or since read so many women’s’ magazines and novels in my life when while there.
DVDs there is no TV but every unit has access to laptops.
Porn. Even on this web site I get embarrassed talking about it. Even though porn is plentiful in Iraq (for the Iraqis), porn is illegal in Iraq and Kuwait. The porn that is already there is pirated and illegal. But, like weapons and alcohol, porn is available in more places then gasoline. Due to the official stances on porn by our ‘host’ countries, it is illegal for troops to bring porn (even soft porn) into Kuwait and you have to go through Kuwait to get to Iraq, Afghanistan or to go home. In Kuwait, on the way out, military customs units go through all of your stuff so it must be disposable or left behind in theater.

When I was there, porn and alcohol were the most sought after commodities in Iraq. Unlike alcohol, if you were caught with porn – in Iraq – it was overlooked and you asked to ‘loan it’ when you were done. Alcohol got you a hand-slap to jail time and bad conduct discharge – depending on who caught you.

You are allowed to have ‘private photos’ of your loved one. These had to fit and stay in your left breast pocket when inspected. All of the rest of you and your stuff could and would be searched as you leave theater.

Randomly, packages are opened and screened for contraband or disallowed items as it makes our way to us. Sometimes when that happens you end up getting a trash bag with your stuff and the mangled box – minus anything valuable or tasty.

We love to throw candy and things to the Iraqi children. That is one of my favorite things to do there. What most Iraqi parents ask for is toothpaste and toothbrushes. Dental care there is worse than medical care there.

If this lad is in a strict unit, he might eventually ask for naughty photos that he could pass off as his ‘loved one’ so he could have some masturbatory materials not subject to confiscation or adverse administrative action. Since your girl is unknown to him and from another city and state. I could see it plausible that she ‘got a hotter and more bolder/daring girl friend’ to pose for her and she sent then to him. Presumably, all these photos produced with him being unaware that those photos were actually of his pen pal herself.

Bear in mind, these photos are intended to be for the owner’s eyes only, BUT eventually, about half of the guys proudly show their buddies what they are coming back to tap. Those with the hottest and most permissive unit proudly display their lover’s photos near or on their stuff for all to see (except when expecting higher authority to visit), much like a portrait normally would be.

What do you think? Any more queries?

great info, will just need to research the "operation dear abby" type things and away we go. I think it will definitely be a girlfriend, i detest cheating wives too much to write about them. Now I just need a good title.

I like my titles to entice, hint, and allure the reader.

I wrote a story about a soldier returning from Iraq. My angle was supportive of the troops and their families on the home-front.

Here's the link, just in case.

http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=351093

It's titled "A Soldier's Homecoming".

I was in the british army for nearly 12 years and did 2 tours in Iraq and 1 in afghanistan. You shouldn't feel restricted in what you write although it is nice that you're actually taking the time to consider the implications of what you right unlike a lot of people. My experience as a female was a little different from the blokes though.

Anywho what you describe happens more often than not. Maybe not with the rather elaborate scenario that you describe, but squaddies on operations will often get email addresses or contact numbers for Girls back home that like to chat with them. You get a certain amount of welfare minutes to phone home every week, and typically what'll happen is someone might get a number of a girl from a mate or someone and they'll just ring them up to chat.

It's not as sleazey as it sounds, sometimes it's nice to chat to someone different. Though quite often they will hook up for a while when they come off tour.

Anywho squaddies are always desperate for packages not so much for what's in them but actually getting one. I've see all sorts of daft stuff, but toiletries, and sweets are always popular. With the British army at least it's free postage to troops on operations so it kind of encourages it.

The only advice I'd give is to research the details of your story if you're not directly familiar with the military. There are a few US military on here so they should be able to help. Soldiers hate books, films tv that try to represent the military and get details wrong.

Anywho good luck and I look forward to reading it.
