I'm retired USAF. I can't help with Army specific military problems like job specific jargon, but I do know a bit about military courtesies and such.

What kind of "military problems" are you having?

One problem I am having right now is how far can be gotten in 8 yrs in the military, is one able to have gotten to at least staff sergeant?the main char is 18 when he goes in 26 when he gets out. What is a good rank for something like that? and what is tottally unrealistic?

Army promotions are a bit quicker than USAF -- it's not uncommon to make E-5 in four years and not impossible make E-7 in eight years. IIRC, an Army SSgt is an E-6 so that's a reasonable rank for eight years service. USAF would take about two years longer to make that much rank; eight years is about the minimum to make E-6 and would require re-enlisting for at least two additional years to accept it.

Also, the time frame you're writing in might make a difference. In a 1960-1990 time frame (and possibly continuing to the present,) the Army used specialist track and command track ranks; a SP5 and a Sgt were the same pay grade but not the same rank. The distinction between command and specialist ranks was eroding when I retired in 1989 and there was some talk of merging them, but I haven't paid much attention to any changes in the Army's rank structure.

This question will sound abit stupid, but what is the name of the infantrys soldier with medical experience but is with a squad or with a company? Is he just simply a medic? or is there a specialist name for this? Also they can use weapons as well now? Unlike WWII where you were either a soldier or a medic which was pretty much clear cut correct? Is there now a position where you are a medic of sorts but you also carry a weapon?

I believe they are call Medical Specialists or "Medic" for short. Even back in WWII the medics were sometimes squad members that carried weapons and had the same trainning as the rest of the squad.

Now, they are and integral part of the squad and carry weapons along with the medical gear.

Ahhh thank you thank you! Second part to that question now is, can the time fram still work with him being a Staf Sgt, within 8 years if he was of this field?

I don't see why not...it is most likely that he would advance faster as he has taken on the responsbility of "Medic" in addition to his other duties, so he is most likely very intelligent and modivated.
