I'm listening to the local oldies station (because the only-remaining local jazz station has been broadcasting a blather of odd political statements) and I couldn't help but notice that they're playing "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel.

But....but....but...wait. This was only released like in 1984 or 1985! It's not old! I bought this album new when I was in high school! This isn't oldies. There's been some horrible programming mistake!!

But apparently there hasn't. It's on their playlist....

It's really depressing the first time a song from our teenage years gets played on an oldies station.

I have a friend who's having an 80's themed party next weekend....Everyone is dressing up it should be a blast....I was downloading some 80's stuff for him....A lot of the catorgory titles was oldies lol....Man If 80's are oldies, I AM ancient lol....

I joke all the time about being old. I am one of the older posters here and I like it. I guess I don't see anything wrong with being old. It is rather cool. I have history and distance from much of the angst that is expressed here and it feels good to be where I am.

I am in good shape, I am happy, I like myself. If being old is one of the things that got me here, then hotdamn! I am glad about it!

The oldies station here just announced that they will play fewer songs from the 50s and 60s (which ARE oldies) and concentrate on playing more songs from the 80s and 90s!!

I stay young at heart through my kids friends. That is where I got the nick name Magical Mother, from my oldest daughters friends.
My kids listen to my music ( 70's & 80's ) and I listen to theirs.
Theirs friends see me as a friend not as someones Mom. They come over to play video games, cards or whatever with me, even when my own kids aren't home. They talk to me when they feel they can't talk to anyone else. Maybe it's because I missed my own teen years, ( i got married at 17 ), and I'm living them now with my kids and their friends. Don't get me wrong I know how to slip in to that parental role when I need to.
