This is the place to tell us about your musical influences. First record, cd, or download you purchased, first concert you attended, first favorite band, etc. In other words, anything that pertains to music.

The first real concert I attended was in 1967. I saw The Music Machine in a small club in Arcada, California. I remember 2 things about the concert. They played their big hit at the time Talk Talk, and they were and still are one of the best live acts I've ever seen.

First record that meant something to me was Thin Lizzy, Jailbreak.
First concert unfortunately was KC & The Sunshine Band....just happened upon it, it was free.

First Record - Have i the Right - The Honeycombes

first gig....Mungo Jerry...:eek::D

My first record was given to me by a friends older brother. It was by this new group called the Beatles. lol It was before Ed Sullivan and Beatlemania so we didn't have a clue about them.

The two best concerts I went to were in Memphis in the mid 80's. Springsteen was on his Born in the USA tour and John Mellencamp was promoting his "Scarecrow" album.

My first ever record....Puppy Love, Donny Osmond

First gig.....Phil Collins at Earls Court

My brother owned a record store in the mid-70's. I worked there to help him out (naturally, no PAY, but I DID get one album and a hamburger for helping out). he also managed a band (that did not make it), so I learned a bit about how record got made back then, as well as a small bit about the business side of getting air time on radio - so I had some different ideas about music than my friends did.

The bands that I gravitated towards were those where real musical talent was demonstrated, or were not what others even knew about - at least at the time.

Jo Jo Gunn (not well known), UFO (Michael Schenker - the MAN), and naturally Peter Frampton - who NEVER seemed to miss hit any note. You RARELY heard any squeal from the strings from fingers sliding incidentally when he played - he was technically almost perfect that way.

I HATED some bands because they started using computers to duplicate drums for consistency - made recording sessions easily and quicker, but also you lost the live feel. There were some bands that NEVER had actual drums playing in their songs. You could always tell by the top hat hits....if there were no miss-hits ever, it was a computer playing drums.

I saw Peter Frampton in concert as my first. I saw Yes (my favorite band of all time) as well. I JUST saw Yes as they started their world tour a few weeks ago (without Jon Anderson - the group had a nasty falling out and he left them).

I saw Paul McCartney in Memphis in 1993. Turns out we were staying in the same hotel. We had drinks with the entire band (except Paul) after the concert. They all signed the shirt I was wearing. I still have the shirt.

I'm a product of the Monkees era. I still like some of their songs. I know.
I think I was even in the Davy Jones fan club.

Geez, after reading Midnight's post above this, I sound like a wimp!

I like the Monkees too. "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone" is one of my all time fav songs. But I really like Paul Revere & The Raiders version better. :)

The only thing I remember about Paul Revere & the Raiders was "Cherokee People". I'll have to dig their Stepping Stone up & give it a listen.

Don't laugh - but other than Elvis and the Beatles, the Raiders are my all-time favorite group.

I like the Monkees. I'm a believer written for them by Neil Diamond. Like Midnight Man, I'm Not Your Stepping Stone. So many others.

My dad liked country, my mom loved classical and some jazz. My first 45 was Hey Jude by the Beatles, mom's xmas present for me. My first concert was either Pink Floyd or Alice Cooper. Just can't remember.

Just pulled them up on YouTube. The things that come up along the right side that are similar really take you back.....the Royal Guardsmen, Jim Croce (one of my all time favorites), Buffalo Springfield, Gary Puckett & the Union Gap. Wow.

They really did have some good stuff, now I look at my "Definitive Monkees" cd - there's 25 songs on it. Yes, I have it.

Oh, I'm jealous! *huggles newbie* I think mine was either the Carpenters, Neil Diamond, Chicago, or Blood Sweat & Tears. It's good to be best friends with a concert promoter's daughter!
