Microsoft/Outlook Question

Appreciate some help with a problem I am having. I tried to send a very large file last Friday to someone. It is still trying to be sent and causing my entire system to really bog down. I have tried to right click on the 'sending' in the lower right hand corner and pushed 'cancel' but that only stops it until the next cycle when it attempts to send again. Is there a way I can go into Outlook and cancel this file that continues to attempt to send? Thanks

inna:

1. what version of windows and what version of outlook are you running? if you're uncertain re: outlook, if you go to the help menu and select about microsoft outlook, the window it displays should tell you that.

2. how much e-mail do you have? outlook keeps all of the e-mail in a single (sometimes ridiculously large) folder. if this file exceeds 5gb even w/ office/outlook 2000, your system will get wacky just b/c it's too darned big.

best course of action: delete the e-mail. it'll just go to your recycle bin, from which point you can kill it if you like. if it's in send/receive mode, it will not permit you to delete, so wait until after it tries and fails.

if you cannot delete it however, that's an indicator that your file is too big and you should consider auto-archiving old e-mail so it doesn't take up space.

btw, note that w/ most e-mails, you can remove att'd files from the mails themselves. you probably have already saved any att'd files anyway, so now the files are taking up space twice. consider deleting the attachments to make room if this is an issue.

Ed thanks for your reply. The version is Outlook 2002 Sp-3.
I was sending a pdf and another folder off of a disc. Because it hasn't been sent yet it is not in my send folder to delete. So it continues to attempt.
And I don't know where to go to get this deleted and out of Outlook.
Thanks.

there should be a folder (use folder view) called outbox. it should be there, and probably is in boldface indicating that you've not read it.

Outbox is the most likely place to find it, keep trying to delete that, and if all else fails, take your computer off the internet, load Outlook, it will try to send but not be able to find the connection, and then you should be able to delete it.

I did what you said Ed and it worked. Size? Not sure it was for a friend that is getting a book published and this was the first portion. Anyway, lesson learned.

It could be the fact that your email provider has a size cap. I know that when I'm stubborn and I try to sneak a huge file past Gmail it takes forever and I get all optimistic, then it slams me and crashes telling me that my file is too big. :(

faelover: how big a file are you talking here? i've uploaded 10 meg files to gmail in the past (over a t1).

Great just what we need, a file-size thread!

I'm worried my PDF is too big. Is this really a problem?

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

I wouldn't worry about the size of your pdf as long as you learn how to stroke the gmail spot. ;)

Not at all. The pun thread is three doors down on your left.

Still, Kahuna, if you feel the need to talk about your hard drive... it's OK. And if you're afraid it's too small; don't worry... you can still do nice things with it. I'm sure..... Really....
