Michigan Roll Call

First ever post! Just wanna say hello to the folks who are local to me.
I'm in the Tri City area, and im freezing to fucking death!

Anyone else going to be at Irish on Ionia in Grand Rapids for ST Patrick's day? My fiance and I will be out there. Anyone who has never been there should go, it's a blast.

Hi, I'm a Michigander also... And, I hear upwards of 50 degrees for next week! WOOHOO! :D

If the weatherman says so, it must be true, right?!?!?! :)
Thanks, that was taken on Loon Lake while kayaking the Platte River! Can't wait til summer is back!
Beautiful. I have always wanted to start kayaking! Maybe for the big 3-Oh (In a couple years) I can convince Hubby to buy one. Great for the arms! Canoeing is fun but I would love the freedom to just go by myself.

You may want to try renting first to make sure you enjoy it. We have done that for years, but with double kayaks. This past summer was my first on my own and I tipped several times! It was either operator error or the rum! :D

Blame the rum! :) Yes, sounds like the vacation I need! That's the joy of our state, the abundance of options for all water sports! Nice to "meet" you, Kim.

And now the awkward pm's containing the phrase "water sports"!!

Nice to meet you also! Yes, "water sports" and "painted toes" I see in my pms quite often! ;)

I'm all for water sports. As long as I have my rod in my hand. :D

I'm ashamed to say I only had my kayak out twice last year. :(

Hope to change that this year.

I need to find somewhere in my area to rent them. Kids are wanting to go down the Clinton River and spillway on them

Riverside kayak connection does a demo day a couple of times in the summer. They do this at Elizabeth Park in Trenton. Free use of all their kayaks that day.

Heavner Canoe Rental also rents out kayaks for use in The Huron River. There is also a livery in Gallup Park in Ann Arbor that does rentals. Don't know of any rental places on the Clinton.

kayaking is awesome and easy to catch on. If you do it at your own pace, and not try to go too fast, it's hard not to enjoy a summer morning on a calm lake with the sound of loons in the background. Its hard to beat if your the first one on the water and no boats are knocking you off kilter and annoying you with the constant sound of engines and screaming kids.
I party, A-lot, but I will be the first one to say that a nice quite morning or evening on a Michigan lake is the closest thing to perfection.
