Man? Woman? Alien? Black? White? Glowing? BabySitter? Straight? Gay? Asexual? confused?

Man, Woman, Alien, Black, White, Glowing, BabySitter, Straight, Gay, Asexual, confused! Yeah, I think that sums it up now!

You know, I'm sure if we all had the money and could make "minor" improvements if needed, we would.

BUT...this is an obsession. He's lost any character or as the previous poster said, soul.

He's like a plastic doll now and will NEVER be taken seriously again as an artist or a person.

Every picture tells a story ...

... but I'm not into horror, so I'll be avoiding the pic in Ambrosius' post from now on.

Who was that unmasked man?

i don't think he IS a person, anymore.. he's like something out of the Twilight Zone..

He'll reinvent himself as a rap singer. Then Laurel will get upset when we make fun of him.

I was walking through the Universal front lot one day and I passed by a guy in a ghoul costume -- long robe and hood and ghost mask, with fake Frankenstein monster hands. He had just stepped out of a limo and had maybe two other people with him.

No big deal, you see things like that all the time on lots -- but usually on back lots, not front lots (where the offices are located).

And then it hit me -- it's Michael Jackson. I had read in sheets that morning that his "Scream" video would be shooting on Stage 27, which was nearby.

What struck me is that he was in no way anywhere near the public, but he still felt the need to wear an elaborate costume for the 100 feet he had to walk over to the sound stage. Paranoid. Seriously paranoid.

OR, and this only occured to me after seeing that freaky photo above, he has a truly hideous face that he doesn't want to show until he locks himself into a dressing room with glue and a putty knife.

Damn. It's a long way from "A B C" aint' it?

I ran the gauntlet of Jacko's face once more to see what else had been said on the matter. I wasn't fast enough and got an eyeful again. He really does look like he's had more hits than Elvis and The Beatles put together. And I'm not talking about music sales either.

I am beginning to think that he revels in the attention he gets.

It's always such a big production for someone who "supposedly" shies away from publicity. His press agents do a fabulous job of advising the press world wide, where he's gonna be and with who.

It keeps him in the limelight.

Sorry if I offend.

I hate feeling sorry for millionaires, but, honestly, don't you just want to kidnap him away from his Neverland ranch and the zoo and the handlers and the fucking circus in his backyard, put him in your basement for 6 months, give him a TV, a fridge, and have weekly poker games down there, just to watch him suddenly come back to life?

I would have made a good cult de-programmer.

He really looks horrific now doesn't he? Nowadays I just try not to think about his appearance anymore....

I remember going to see the History concert about four years ago now? It was a brilliant show, and his performance was absolutely electric. I guess it's one of the only places where he really feels comfortable now, on the stage performing for his fans.

Despite his appearence i'm still a huge fan, i've got all his albums and am eagerly awaiting the new one!

Rock stars have always been sort of like teflon, bad behaviour never hurt business, sometimes it boosts sales. You can be a drunk, fuck a lot of girls, cuss up a storm, do drugs, wipe your ass with Old Glory, even kill somebody and you're still in business.

Molest one child..........

When your as rich as he is then your eccentric but when your as (relatively) poor as the rest of us then your just a fucking "Crazy".

I liked him better when he was black.

Michael Jackson--Oh! wow ,fantastic, great, terrific.Hey! any news on my brain transplant?

I can't believe his brothers haven't just beat the shit out of him by now.

What a guy!

I don't think MJ is alone in having difficulty away from the stage, but your point is well taken. And ironically, there can be no more effective way of hiding from yourself and others than standing in front of an audience performing.

I can't help but wonder what all of this is about for MJ. I've read that he suffers from an immune disorder, which I also suffer from, that results in expanding patches of skin without pigment. I've always felt saddened for people of color I encounter with the disease, which is called vitaligo, because it is so glaring on dark skin. With a fairer complexion, my skin only shows the effect of the disease when I'm in the sun and well tanned.

I also ponder MJ's apparent gender confusion which has led him to so severely change his appearance. I agree with comments about how nice he looked as a young man, before he began messing with cosmetic surgery. But I think much of our repulsion at who he's become arises from our own need for certainty about our orientation and gender. He represents a fluidity that seems strange and to some grotesque. I wonder what its about for him. I don't blame him for not telling us.

Now why didn't I think of that...

Thanks for your enlightened contribution to the topic.

I think more people are reacting to the fact that he looks like something that's been rejected by quality control at the wax figure factory, and not to the androgynous portion of his appearance.

You may be right about that, but I still find myself wondering how this creature came into being. I know one of the first things people reacted to was his sudden appearance with light skin. There were rumors he was bleaching himself somehow. I've never seriously pursued treatment for vitaligo, so I don't know whether his attention to his appearance arose initially as an attempt to deal with a very real problem. What he's done with the surgery is shocking, but I find myself disappointed with many stars for what they'd done to themselves, ie Cher, or Roseanne Barr, to name a few. Yes, his appearance is shocking, but it makes me curious rather than repulsed.

...and WriterDom will tell us how he's responsible for all the evils in the world. ;)
