metrosexuals, wtf?!

I don't think the term 'metrosexual' has anything to do with your sexual preference at all. It has more to do with your appearance. (From my understanding, anyway. Whatever that's worth.)
I agree. So what you're saying is that it's something more of a "fashion statement." Honestly, I always thought it meant people who cruise the downtown subways or bus depots and train stations! LOL! "Metro" - Sexual. (I'm being funny here! :D )

*Puts on her dumb blond hat* You mean it doesn't mean that? I don't think that's truth in advertising. *Dumb blond off*

I don't think the shaving and lotion has to do with your sexuality, it is just something not traditionally done by straight males in this era, other eras obviously had differing views of masculinity (1700's Europe and America for example). I don't think anyone is calling Metrosexuals gay, the term makes a very clear distinction that metro is straight...just straight with flare.

Ohh, I like that.

Straight with flair...

The term "Metrosexual" (Metropolitan Heterosexual) is defined by it's social psychological relationship to homophobia in it's counterpart: Rural Heterosexual.

Isolated, these terms suggest the magnitude of personal contacts the metropolitan heterosexual (metro-sexual) encounters with lesbians and gay men represents higher altitudes of social acceptance for gay culture. Whereas, in less populated vicinities, (less people = less gays) heterosexuals will be less likely to accurately define the world entirely in heterosexual terms since they have less to compare their "straitness".

What I meant was how does how you look or the effort you go into keeping yourself looking good have anything to do with your sexuality?

But this has since been cleared up.

I personally have been using moisturiser and so on for many years, long before it became popular. I figure if girls can cheat the system then why can't I!

It's funny how much time is spent debating definitions...everything seems simple until then...sigh...

I just want to boink my ass off...and yours too... ;)

It's not HOW you look or WHAT you like, but the REASONING behind it.

My understanding was that it meant a straight man with "gay style", whatever that means.

I definitely don't think gays came up with it.

I would really like to know the orgin of this term.

From Wikipedia

Metrosexual was coined in 1994 (as was its noun, metrosexuality) by British journalist Mark Simpson, who used it to refer to an urban male of any sexual orientation who has a strong aesthetic sense and spends a great deal of time and money on his appearance and lifestyle. He is the fashion-conscious target audience of men's magazines:

There's more there if your interested.
