Menstrual Hut

Who knew there were so many fertile half centurions... online?

I thought it was all blonde bi sexuals and giant trouser armadillos.

Do nale three quarter centurions have any health issues they need to discuss?

I got my first Moderna vax, started my period the next day, and I've been on it for two weeks now. It's also the heaviest one I've ever had.

I got my first shot of the pfizer vax on Saturday and started last night. Woohoo. So far normal however.

It's a good time for a cup of raspberry leaf tea I guess.

Menstruating while you've just been put on anticoagulants is super fun, FYI.
Well that just gave me hebiegebies. Blues was put on those for a year after his heart attack. He would hurt himself and not realize it until blood was flowing everywhere and would. not. stop. Once he accidentally knocked off a tiny scab and it bled for 4 hours straight. Got to where I bought coagulant powder and stashed it everywhere. My purse, his desk, his guitar cases, his music partner's guitar cases, the car. Everywhere. I can't imagine what you're going through. Hopefully it goes quickly. Be kind to yourself.

Espressolover, thanks for sharing such a great experience and lisalovesit you are not alone. Hormones are powerful things.

Where is our Starfishie? She is probably off painting lovely artful things. This really is a wonderful thread.

I love being a woman. I love the ties I have to the heavens and the earth like Espressolover mentioned.

Since my surgery I no longer bleed but I do ovulate and have the symptoms thereof. I know menopause is stalking me. I will miss the pull of the cycles but accept the change as part of my overall life cycle.

I have two daughters and I never wanted them to feel shamed about this part of their sexuality. Our society is so lacking in coming of age ceremonies. Menarche is a big deal in a womans life. Don't think I am crazy but we had a "Red" party for the girls when they started their periods. We invited their friends and female relatives. All of us wore red and gave the girls something red to remember this time. Sentimental as they are, they both have their gifts and pictures tucked away in a little box. It was fun and meaningful. Their friends, now in their twenties, will still occasionally mention the party and what it meant to them.

And it got lost in all the rest of the drama that year, but several years post menopause I went to the bathroom and saw blood in my panties as if a period was starting. WHAT is this nonsense???? Of course I went and googled "post menopausal period" and none of it was good. My gyn saw me that week, did a biopsy and called a few days later. Cancer. Uterine. I was referred to a gyn oncologist. This was during covid so many of my consultations were done either through a zoom-type app or over the phone. So, yeah. I had a full hysterectomy and received a clean bill of health. Bluebie was a wreck during it but tried very hard not to show it. Our son-in-law was diagnosed with an incurable cancer a week or two before my surgery. And 6 months later Bluebie died. So....my bout with cancer was the least of it. I almost forget about it but mention it here in the Hut for others' future reference.

Oh, and when you think you're getting close to the end of your menstruation years, keep track of your periods on a calendar or in an app or something. They start getting irregular and inconsistent and every fricken dr for the rest of your life will ask you "When was your last period?" I swear to God. "I don't know. Pick a year, any year. It's been a long time, ok?" Do yourself a favor and keep track so you don't look as stupid as me. :)
