Men raised in hiding

I've been thinking about fictional settings where men are a very small part of the population or are almost all dead. So in a similar vein, what if there was a world where the moment a male was born, he was taken to hidden chambers and kept away from the outside world, only knowing their family before they grew into adulthood. The setting wouldn't just be a single male being kept captive but rather some societal understanding that males are to be hidden away. You can be kind to them, you can treat them well but they must never go outside and until they are adults, no one should know you them in your house and even then they must still be kept hidden.

That's the basic premise. I'll share one idea but I would like to see your alls' ideas.

One idea I had was one where demons and monsters have fully taken over. They let humanity live since they want something to rule over and have as a source of amusement or food if they're in the right mood. But as always, there's a prophecy about a male hero gathering the 4-5 whatsits and ending their reign. As such, males are to be turned over at birth and are then indoctrinated and made into sex slaves when they reach adulthood. The demons then use the males as a form of population control since they can keep track of who visited their harems and do follow-up to see who got pregnant. However, they're rather lazy and only check after the assumed due date. If you come up a convincing story they'll just do a brief check of your house and then leave.

The story would follow a guy who reaches adulthood in secret and then sneaks out to see the world.

Well if you want to go a little less magic and more sci-fi Sliders essentially covered this. A war broke out, presumably between Russia and the US this was the early 90's and they were still the designated bad guy. Anyway some bioweapon is unleashed that killed 99.99999% of the male population and now men are essentially war assets. Women who find them are supposed to turn them into the state where they are effectively studded out (can't let the Ruskies get a population gap!) wild men are heavily sought after. They very intentionally tip toed around kids on that particular story but its easy to see them keeping them hidden away rather than sending them off to the farms or risking them being attacked by raiders or even other Americans. Sure they may very well respect the 18 year old rule (which IRL would go the fuck out the window in this scenario.) But they aren't going to risk them getting away either.

Ooh, I've actually been hankering to watch some sliders lately and I like the idea quite a bit as control of men would become a major focus of the story's world (black markets, peace agreements, scientific research would all center around getting more men than the enemy)

Also, the story that got me to post this thread was Brother's Price if anyone's interested.

I think this has been gamed in mainstream SF a few zillion times this last century. Males are rare and treated as currency by the ruling females. Rival fem factions war over how and where to *do* males. One faction breeds a secret stash of studly guys; another wants to exterminate all the Men (Perverts); another has worked supposed ETs into the mix. Gangs of rogue males occasionally swoop in from wilderness hideouts and ride off with female prizes. So do gangs of rogues lesbians. But probably no rogue freemartins.

Havven't watched "Sliders" in ages, but I like this story idea thus far. Question is, is this one of those 'slice of life' stories, or will the ending have an impact on the entire situation at present? I'm intrigued.

As usual, many approaches are possible. A short stroker with almost no backstory, just showing the situation as a fait accompli. A small, seemingly innocuous event with historical, race-wide repercussions. A rich tapestry of tales of several Men (Perverts) and their captors, rescuers, and confessors. A confused farce with a Scooby-Doo chase and an O.Henry ending. (Rival girl gangs pursue one fleeing male but accidentally squish him. Oh well, he was gay.) Toss in Incest, BBC, BBW, multi-racial, BDSM, and wimp elements for variety. Maybe some aliens and, dare I say, tentacles?

Build a setting and a few plot points. Establish some players and set them loose. Follow their POVs, transcribe their activities, and watch the fun unroll.
