2 University students, one studies theology, the other literature.
Living together in one of their parents vacation home near campus.

As a joke they decide to create a joke religion, the literature student writes a holy book (Which isn't actually that long.), while the theology student knows exactly what a religion needs to officially be a religion.

They write themselves as the 'high priests' of the religion and make the vacation home where they live a holy place. But leave openings to create other such holy places. They also put in a lot of sexual rules and ridiculous rules and guidelines, like being impregnated by a high priest is a great honor.

They create a website where they 'publish' the book.

All is fun and games until people start following their 'religion'. People, mostly women and couples even start showing up asking for 'blessings'. Some even want to devote themselves and move in.

Maybe even some rich people that offer larger buildings to devote to the religion.

And thus the adventure of sex and being adored by a large group of people begins...

So what kind of people show up?
What kind of crazy rules are in their holy book?
How do they respond to this all?
How many women will they impregnate?

It'd be funny if the reason people started being drawn to it is if the name of the god they made up was actually the name of an ancient forgotten god, or eldritch abomination, and the little bit that they bothered to write down were actually true to that beings desires and roots.

It's been said that starting a cult is the next best grift after drug trafficking.

That's a fantastic story idea that I would definitely read.

I'd think some scary, dangerous types who are fanatically devoted could open up some interesting angles. Maybe ex-military, or hard-core outlaw bikers? A dirty cop might be interesting. It opens the whole Henry 2 "Will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest?" deal when the main characters might inadvertently send followers off to do violence and mayhem.

What genre are you thinking?

I think it would be cool to write the story following different characters, but the two best friends being MC's in each part but adding a third or even third and fourth MC for chapters.

Like a storyline of a 20yo Nympho girl, she asks for "blessings" (Sex) so much that they can't keep up, since other female followers also want sex with them. So they decide to make her a priest of their cult, allowing her to give "Blessings" to other male members. However this just causes the cult's popularity to grow. A follow up chapter could be where family members of her show up (Her parents maybe?) that think she is held captive there and forced into all this. Eventually her parents see that she isn't forced at all and also join the cult.

Other storyline about a couple who is having trouble conceiving, they find the cult and decide to join. Since the friends jokingly made sex a central part of the "Religion" the couple wants them to conceive a child with the wife. At this point they are so far into their own cult that they eventually just go with it and succeed. However the couple in their enthousiasm share that they were blessed with a child by the cult. So the popularity grows once more.

Maybe one of the friends writes a thesis on this all for his studies and the female teacher gets intrigued. Maybe the teacher realizes what has happened but still is interested in the cult and the life that would be possible inside it. (Maybe she ends up as the second priest, not counting the friends themselves who are High priests or saints.)

Basically making it a whole bunch of short stories surrounding the two friends and their accidental cult. Anyone else have any ideas for storylines/characters?

I dig it! So many ways to go with the premise. Comedic, Ironic, or deeper, exploring the MC's dilemma. It was a lark, it is a ton of sexual fun, but how far will they take it?

Love this idea.

It's got a clear beginning and a clear middle (which could be as long or as short as you need it).

How does it end?

It becomes a major world religion?
Do the two founders argue and cause a split in the church and theology?
Do they close their temple and admit their lies?
Something else entirely?

I did this in D&D. That campaign is still ongoing, and we're heading into the endgame now. Now, this was on a high fantasy (grimdark) setting based around Ivan the Terrible's Russia, so stuff like the Internet is strange (for instance, the Sending spell essentially became Discord). It isn't a joke religion though, and I never considered breeding as part of it because the campaign isn't erotic, but I can tell you a few things:

  • The holy book is not just the rules. It also has stories, both fictional and real (in-universe), though the real ones are biased towards the deity, and the deity's followers/heroes. These stories serve as a justification for the cult's morality, their rules, the lessons to take from them, historical accounts... You may want to make bullet points about the holy book's contents, as this would work to spring more ideas. In my Cleric's case, because this is an actual religion, the book is going through many modifications due to a schism that happened in the middle of the campaign, but the essentials remain the same, it's just that some content has been added, edited, or deleted, depending on the sect. As for rules go, since it is a deity of love, lust, and mischief, there aren't many. The deity only considers abuse and treason as anathemas, but for the rest, everyone can be as crazy as in the Roman orgies. The deity is just not keen on people cheating on their spouses unless they are okay with it, and this has brought many controversies in-game.
  • In my case the people who started showing up were mostly men who just wanted to get laid, and the first women who got in were sex workers. As time went on, more people started to take upon interest in it, and some even got married in their church/brothels. It was a defrosting process because the initial response was that they were just eccentric people at first. Had the campaign have a different background, they may have faced armed opposition.
  • The cult is also female-centric, so men can't hold any position inside its clergy, though some men had been declared saints for their deeds to the deity and the deity's will. Gender roles are a whole thing in religions and cults, and the high priestesses may actually put an idea of what it is to be expected from them.

This could work as a great anthology though, there's plenty of point of views to explore.

Autobiography of L Ron Hubbard?

There was once a Church of Aphrodite that lasted for about thirty years. I'd piggy back a story after that idea. The two men would be Aphrodite's 'consorts'. Her high priests and lovers. They strive to bring others into her grace.

I'd like it if it is from HER perspective. When I first learned of the sex cult, it was billed as the most accurate depiction of the earliest known sex religion. I tried initially only as a lark, to satisfy my curiosity. As expected, the rules on nudity and sex were WAY out of our current social norms. On the other hand, these rules made sense to me. Since clothing normally establishes social status, all prayers and religious rituals must be done in the nude. We are nothing before our God. Watching The Great Rite MFM sex train made perfect sense to me, replacing the old with the new. Watching it also made me jealous and wet. I wanted to be the High Priestess in the middle of that train. Learning that at this religion's weddings the groom must have sex with the bride on the alter makes much more sense than kissing. I want to get married here, someday. I soon became a regular and not long after that Temple worker, a holy fundraiser and closet rapid member and recruiter.

It took a long time to find a boyfriend that loved to have sex with me in public places and in front of others, that was kinky enough to marry me in this cult. My fiancé doesn't believe in my cult at all, but he loved the idea of banging me in front of a captive audience. Our friends and family felt compelled to put up with it to support their loved ones and witness our wedding. Most attendees are horrified but enough are entertained that they the story starts adding in their stories as well. I never asked but I'm secretly hoping I made my father proud.
