O.K. We have a great thread going about songs that are really poems being sung. Now lets whittle that down a bit. How about phrases or metaphors in songs that really blow you away, or at least catch your fancy? - I will start us off with four easy ones.
Jimmy Buffet - He Went to Paris (a great song!)
While the tears were a-fallin' he was recallin'
Answers he never found
So he hopped on a freighter, skidded the ocean And left England without a sound.
Crosby, Stills, and Nash - Southern Cross
We got eighty feet of waterline, nice Jamaican way. (or, "nicely making way" - I only really like the first version.)
Chuck Berry (Johnny Rivers' hit) - Memphis
With "hurry home" drops on her cheek that trickled from her eye.
Paul Simon - Kathy's Song (one of my favorites!)
And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I.
Now let us see what you have got!
Regards, Rybka
