Has anyone read the book, then saw the movie or vise versa?

What did you think in comparing the two?

I read the book, but I still haven't seen the movie yet. Haven't had much time to think, let alone sit down to watch a movie. :(

I watched the movie on Saturday night.
However, I was a bit disappointed in it.
It was a great movie and stayed pretty true to the book, but it also left alot of stuff out. Most likely the stuff that would highten the ratings.

I still would rent it or even buy it since I loved the book. They casted the people playing the parts so well.

Make sure you get a chance to watch it, its worth it!

I'll see if I can rent it out this weekend.

Same as Aurora. I've read the book about a million times, but I never got around to seeing the movie. All I've seen were the clips from the Oscars.

I will try to rent it as soon as possible. I'm counting on it being different and perhaps a bit disappointing, so maybe I'll be positively surprised :)

I read the book because I wanted to see the movie course now with it on DVD I have yet to get my butt over to the movie store to get a copy.

Read the book and loved it. Watching the movie is something I've been meaning to do but never got around to it. I'm keeping it on my list of things to do.

I dont want people to think the movie was bad, it wasnt, it was good!

It just puts a slant on your perception of how you thought it would look on film.

Now I begin to wonder if I actually want to see Da Vinci Code on film.

Um...you had a higher tolerance for it than I did. Mind you, I didn't read the book so I don't know how much was book vs. movie.

I came up with several different titles for this film:
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Ho (for being very pretty and in spite of all protestations to the contrary...about money for sex)
Memwahs of a Geisha (Everyone sounds like Elmer Fudd. I kept expecting someone to say, "Be verwy, verwy quiet, we're hunting wabbits!" I mean it. I could hardly understand what was being said half the time.)

What I learned from the movie:
1) All women are bitches.
2) Guys love it when you talk about sports.
3) When deciding on a dance that you hope will blow everyone's mind...go for a modernist mood piece. No one will understand it, and so, they will assume it's brilliant.
4) Poor Japan. Those darn Americans diminished the elegance and mystery of the Geisha. How did that happen? (Oh, wait, didn't someone start a war?)

How I would describe the movie: A cross between Gone with the Wind (come on! after the war when her hands are rough but she finds a komono so she can try to be a Geisha again...didn't you expect her to make it out of curtains? I did!), Show Girls and some random superhero film--including a montage of hero beefing up for the big battle with the villain (that is, montage of girl becoming Geisha so she can battle it out with rival bitch for dominace of Geisha world).

Yeah. I know. I'm hard on movies.
