are you ready for what seems to be inevitable.

Every day we inch closer and closer towards war.

I, myself am in the military (National Guard), and while I'm not really looking forward to it...I will not run and hide.

I know of at least 5 (besides myself) people in the military right now. My younger brother is at Ft. Bragg (regular Army-also Airborne) who is due to go to Afganistan. His two friends he went in with are at Ft. Campbell (regular Army). I also have a cousin in Germany (regular Army). And my best friends brother (Marines) is on leave right now and he is more than likely going to the Middle East.

So military members...what is you view on all of this. Are you for or against what we are about to do? Also how many of you (this applies to all) have loved ones in the military?

My wife is in the Army. While she is against the idea of this new war, she knows that she made a promise to defend the Constitution. Her duty to country comes before her own personal beliefs.

I'm in a sniper bat. 6 of us .

I might not be sent over though. I would like to be in Gaza, because the Hamas roaches will try and bomb Israel when the US attacks Iraq...so to take a few out of those rodents would be great fun

What unit are you in Hans?

Out of Bragg or Benning?

I'm still a little confused by the people who say we're marching off to war.

If I remember back to 1990 it took Bush Sr. about 6 months to move 500,000 or so men and women into position to do the nasty with Saddam.

Now, I haven't been paying the stictest attention to what's going on, and I realize that Iraq isn't the juggernaut that it was 12 years ago, but unless there's some giant Area 51 type place out in the Saudi desert that they teleport troops to I'm thinking there's only about 2-3% of that total on the ground right now.

Who exactly is gonna fight this war?

A lot of the strike aircraft and bombers are in place...or at least an hours flight away from optimal launching zones.

Troop movements can be covered by calling them "regular exercises" but not in numbers like you are talking about.

But it wouldn't take too long to get troops in position because the Gulf War was a good learning process.

Cunt, it's not a publicly names unit.

It's a commando unit with no external name or indentification

Interesting...Delta Force is not allowed to publicly state even the facts you mentioned. Any sort of Shadow unit is barred from the same thing.

But hey, it's a cool fantasy.

You can say either Benning or Bragg though.

The logistics of getting the munitions is the problem.. it would take an airlift effort of 3 months to stockpile a ready use. full out war munitions supply for 3 weeks.

There are people over there right now

As far as the people who say we're marching off to war... we are. Bush will not let up no matter how matter how many concessions Iraq makes. The removal of Hussein is what Bush wants.

I don't buy it. Didn't Clinton gut the military's ability to do stuff like that?

And you don't make a "regime change" with strike aircraft. Takes soldiers on the ground to make that move - and a hell of a lot of soldiers to form an occupation Army.

I'm thinking Georgie is bluffing out his ass.

He's also FBI, CIA and Secret Service when it works for him.

Ummm... I said that.

There's an armored cav regiment in Kuwait I think and probably a Marine Amphibious unit floating around nearby. That's great if you wanna get the students out of Grenada, but it's not much of an invasion force and doesn't add up to an occupation Army.

Where's the beef?

Thats what the army is for.. occupation. mostly

except for their expeditionary arms.. like rangers and airborne.

Marines will take the land, the army bunkers in and holds it.

so you could launch a full scale attack (once your logistics has been taken care of) and bring in army units as the front line units take land.

I was meaning troop movement would be much easier now than it would have been pre-Gulf War...in a logistical sense.

No, it will take many troops, and spill a lot of blood for a "regime" change. Far more than is in Gaza or Saudi (SWA as the military call it)/Kuwait.

It may be a bluff...but sometimes bluffs work.

General Schwarzkopf would not be impressed.

That's a pretty half-assed invasion plan if you ask me. If you're gonna do it right you need overwhelming force on the ground. It's not there yet and I ain't heard squat about it moving.

It seems to be working on most people already. I've assumed it was bluster all along. You're just not going to have an invasion without massive troop moments. When that happens I'll believe it.

There are several Army units in place in Kuwait. The 1st Cav here, and many units from the 4th ID are on track for a rotation in Kuwait in December.

I don't think they will succeed that way though

Go back to Duke Nukem.
