I just saw this story with the unfortunate news that White Castle, presumably the oldest fast food burger chain in the USA, is canceling its traditional "In Castle Valentine's Dinner."

MelissaBaby is, I believe, our foremost practitioner of White Castle erotica, and this seems right up her alley. In fact, I have an idea: a White Castle story for each contest, or for each holiday.

Plus, I'm returning the idea to her as a favor because she gave me the idea for my Penis Fish story two years ago.

I'm trying to imagine who would take a Valentine's Day date to White Castle. You're either really secure in your relationship, or you're doing everything you can to run them off.

A girlfriend once took me to a White Castle because I'd never heard of the place. She thought it was a necessary part of the American experience.

It depends on where you are in America, because it's a regional rather than national franchise. Even so, I'm not sure about it as the choice for Valentine's Day. But it could make a great story.

Damn, I am in a race to get my Pink Orchid entry done in time, I won't have time to write A White Castle Valentine.

Well, there is always next year. In fact, next year, people will still be tasting the Whities they ate this year.

Yep. I had never heard of a White Castle until we were sitting around drinking beer in Korea (circa 1974) and a guy from Ohio mentioned missing his white Castle burger, which led to a long animated one-upsman contest (as always happens when a bunch of 20 something guys are together far from home) about regional burger places. After a few hours and many, many beers, I don't remember which one of us won, or even if there was a winner.

There is a similar restaurant chain in Canada called White Spot. The burgers and fries are the best in the world. Flashback to the early '70s and my girlfriend and I always went for burgers, fries and side orders of their pickles after a date. We loved them. Valentine's Day wouldn't have mattered a damn. But there weren't a whole lot of choices either in that era.

We got engaged over burgers, fries and pickles so :D

It is a regional thing. Like there are people who have never had a can of Moxie!

It is just not a thing in their area of the world, which is sad.

White Castle is definitely an east of the Rocky's regional thing. I'd like to try Moxie but I've never found it around here.

Ya'll may have those two, but I know fer sure you haven't got a Truck Monkey dealer on that side of the country:

Moxies? Nothing to write home about. Decent food but horribly overpriced. They cater to the younger crowd. You're not missing anything.

Breakfasts are decent.

When it comes to regional what stands out for me is New York System Hot Wieners, also known as 'gaggers' as attractive as that sounds. They're only in NY and RI, how CT was skipped being between the two, not sure.

They're some type of hotdog that you might be better off not knowing exactly what its made of, kind of spicy, and you top with with a special meat sauce, celery salt mustard and onions.

Hot Oven grinders seems to be a regional thing here as well

Manhattan White Castle?

I’ve seen a lot of the US over the years but never come across a White Castle. I’m visiting New York, not for the first time, in a few months and there appears to be a White Castle near Penn Station. Is that correct and if so is it recommended?
