Melissa Etheridge has successful cancer operation
October 15, 2004, 3:38:56

Lesbian rock singer Melissa Etheridge has undergone a successful breast cancer operation.

The 43-year-old star, who announced last week that she was battling the illness , is recovering well after the lumpectomy operation and her prognosis "is excellent".

Melissa and her doctors are now said to be planning the next stage of her treatment.

She said: "I'm taking all of this one day at a time and spending time with the ones I love. I want to thank everyone for their concern and outpouring of affection."

Last week, Melissa revealed that she was expected to recover from the potentially fatal disease.

Oh my God,

I hadn't realised she was ill. She's one of my favourite songwriters too, with a talent all too rare in the era of "American Idol" and other such crap.

Hope she makes a full recovery.

Your current av reminds me, impressive, of a patient my wife helped to treat in the emergency room.

"Are you sexually active?" they asked her.

She considered, then replied, "No, I mostly just kinda lie there."

What a waste! I feel sorry for both her & her partner. She needs to visit the AH for some lessons from perpetually horny people.

LOL...so true.

All the best to Mellissa, she's fabulous.:rose:

my mom was a breast cancer survivor... sounds kinda odd now that shes dead but it was so harsh... those lumpectomies way back when werent perfected...she was truly mutilated but...she always had a smile even through radiation.

positive thoughts melissa's way.

Go Melissa!

ps. Off topic political observation: Why do the article label her the "Lesbian rock singer"? Is that somehow significant?

in the perfect world no... it wouldnt make a bit of difference. shes an advocate.. never hid her sexuality or was afraid to say who/what her preferences are. america still struggles with homophobia to an embarassing degree.
*sigh*
