I had thought not to post this, but it goes toward people's Feedback complaints on the AH and which are so minor that its hilarious that those feedbacks even piss people off. Here is a dude who made anti-semetic remarks after what 30 years in the business? - great - like we are all innocent from not saying things we might regret? What did Jesus say? Those without sin cast the first stone? Well, I am not much into jesus either, but its a good quote.

My question is WTF is Barbara Walters and Rob Schneider doing making public statements that they will NEVER watch his movie Apocolypto, or associate themselves with his company? What fucking irresponsible idiots are they? THEY SHOULD BE BANNED!

What did they forget? The hundred hungry actors, artists and technicians who lay their hopes on Apocolypto, and who will continue to be hungry actors, technicians and artists due to these haphazard and personal statements.

I will be watching that movie. I may disagree with what Mel said about the Jews, but I know he is looking for forgiveness now and I applaud and pray for him. As someone who has never really liked or understood Scientology and come to feel the opposite because of writing stories about its celebrity practioners (who I've always loved, despite the bashing, and tried hard to get, and do now), I know it is possible for even the greatest bigots to change their minds. I also value the work of all the people who have worked on the film, and think they should be appreciated. And besides, I have never liked Barbara or Rob. :D

I don't know what Gibson said, but there is much worse in the world than being PC right now. There are also others to consider when bashing him. :) If Oprah said " I will never watch his movie?" Well, half of America would not. A film is a joint project and a work of many and certainly Walters should know better. Shneider? Well, whatever - he's a comedian. Walters influences people and she was sober! :D

Barbara Walters and Rob Schneider have blown it out their back sides before. This is just a case of jumping on what they see as the newest band wagon of Anti-Semitism. Neither of those to really have much integrity to begin with. The whole Mel Gibson episode with blow over in a few weeks and everyone will have forgotten about it.

In the end Mel Gibson will still be around because he's big boxoffice while Barbra Walters and Rob Schneider will be hoping people will have forgotten their stupid comments.

He just told some racist jokes?

I've been wondering what he said, but always forget to google it when online.

Were they like 'ha ha harmless racist jokes' or jokes with death and mutilation? Cuz - while I understand the stance against any racist jokes whatsoever - I always feel there's a a difference between tasteless jokes where everyone lives and tasteless jokes where somebody dies.

Maybe that's just me.

It's my understanding they were not jokes at all but drunken rantings about the jews being responsible for all the wars in history. The reports don't seem to want to give all the gory details. But I did like the early report where he called a female arresting officer "Sugar Tits". That was classy.

Yes...this is the account that I heard on the radio. Then they started spoofing his (Gibson's) rehab journel. *snicker* :D

They had him whining that Danny Glover wouldn't talk to him, that he'd called Danny's house and Danny pretended to be his answering machine. Then Gary Busey called Mel and Mel pretended to be his voice mail...LMAO

Yeah, I just read a story about it (finally). Lol I like where he says Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world, then asks one of the officers if he's a Jew. For some reason, that just conjured up an image of Jon Stewart doing his squinty face and asking, "Are YOU a Jew?"

ROFLMAO! I did not know that - too funny.

Edit to add - was that the sexist comment he made? LOL - I am not really a fan, but I find this whole deal interesting.

Does it really matter what he said? As long as he wasn't spray painting swasticas and goose stepping around the party or street or whatever, big fuckin' deal?

Do we lable and slander folks in the bar as anti-Semites or anti-Irish or anti-German or anti-Catholic or anti-War or anti-American because they tell jokes or sometimes get drunk and go off on a tirade? No. Of course we don't. We sit back, wait for them to sober up and say "Dude, you're a fucking asshole when you're drunk," and with that the conversation is usually done.

Mel, the next time you jump off the wagon, come drink in Iowa man: where it's so damn quiet and everyone is so half-crocked already that no one really gives a shit about what you say.

Edited: Especially when you're drinking at parties.

I don't think it's called labelling so much as it is telling it like it is. This is not the first time he's gotten in shit over bad-mouthing Jews. When you repeatedly bad-mouth someone, it's reasonable to infer you don't like them. And you know what it's called when you don't like Jews?

(Anyone who gets this right will receive a playful spanking)

Ooh! Ooh! I know, I know!

It's kinda bad logic, but it works. It's like saying anyone who gets drunk and yells at women is a masogynist.

Granted, nobody REALLY knows what was said by Mel, but given his past episodes of drinking-happy-fun time, and his history, maybe we should just say he needs to sober the fuck up and stop driving drunk.

I don't know. Drunkeness has a way of bringing out honesty especially on our bigotries. The facade of day to day life crumbles and what lives in their hearts can get out.

This can be a part of oneself that they hate or even don't listen to on a day to day basis, but it is still indicative.

The only thing this does is reveal to the world that for all his bullshit about not hating the Jews, some dark corner of them does in fact hate them and for all his upstanding Christian bullshit, he's a horndog in truth.

The roasting over the coals, whatever. It's not about PC. PC allows this stealth racism. Allows people to claim that they hold no ill views when we all know they do and we all know many of our fellow breathern and even ourselves hold ill views. It is smoke and mirrors and not at all effective.

Does Mel Gibson hate Jewish people? Yes. The very publishing of "Passion of the Christ" as a movie instead of the infinite other versions of Christ's life and suffering illustrated that as a "duh". This confirms that. Does this mean we shouldn't watch his movies? If you don't want to, don't see them. We as citizens have a right to partake or not partake in the products or services of others for any reason. Does his statement deserve scorn? Not really. The attitudes behind it, the smug pretense and dishonesty and lying holier than thou manner, are what are reprehensible. The fact that he has racist tendencies is what is reprehensible. Not that he states it.

Honesty should not be reprehensible. Only by being honest and encouraging honesty can the antiquated "taboos" be readily defeated and hypocrisy and false morality looked down upon and revealed.

But I'm a bit of a hardass.

Here, here, LC ...*claps*

Huh? Mel Gibson said something?

Yes, I live under a rock. Leave mail in the hollow stump on the left, please.

Speak for yourself. In Vino Veritas, and the bigotry that's revealed by drunkards deserved to be pounced on before they sober up and become hypocrites once more.

maybe lol.

You talk of they, mostly and forget about you. :) I agree though.

thats what all Jewish people say. Seriously. :| You are not saying anything new. What does the Passion of Christ confirm? Proof from the movie, please - because I didn't see much that was different from the Christian bible (and no - I am not Christian). The Christians were similarly all up in arms about Scorcese's movie 'The Last Temptation of Christ'. Did that make Scorcese an anti-christian? What was that word you used - oh yes - duh.

The fact that he has racist tendencies is what is reprehensible. Not that he states it.

True - but in his racist statements, which he holds himself accountable for, he did not lose as many jobs as those who responded in a very public venue and with a certain power, "I WILL NEVER WATCH HIS MOVIE OR DEAL WITH HIS COMPANY". We punish the man, but should we also punish the masses as we may do with Apocolypto? Perhaps a bigger venue on the world scale? Does that make us good people to punish the hundreds because of the one? Just a Q.

Honesty should not be reprehensible. Only by being honest and encouraging honesty can the antiquated "taboos" be readily defeated and hypocrisy and false morality looked down upon and revealed.
I agree and would be a hypocrite if I did not.

But I'm a bit of a hardass.

No - you are a softass.

We will know soon if this is really a career killing situation or not. The Hollywood film industry is dominated by jewish investors, producers and directors. Mel Gibson, with only a couple of exceptions, produces, acts in or directs movies that make $money$. In the estimation of the powers in the film industry if Mel Gibson is going to continue making money after this fiasco, he won't be hurt at all. On the other hand, if the powers feel he has so tarnished his reputation that his films will lose money he's finished in Hollywood, at least for the near future.

In either case neither Anti-Semite outrage, alcholism, nor criminal arrest are direct factors in Gibson continuing his career in the near term.

Thanks for your take, JJ - can I call you that? Much appreciated.

Certainly, Charley. Most people call me JJ or asshole, depending on the situation :D:kiss:

A friend of mine, who just happens to be a Rabbi, was asked about this. His answer?

If Mel Gibsons comments were the worst things people in this world had to worry about, it would be a good thing.

I tend to agree.
