Hi all, I'm looking for a technical editor with experience in oncology or cancer treatment. Because of the sensitive subject matter I want to make sure I get it right.
The story is around 18k words. It's a sapphic romance and it's non-erotic.
Thanks!

Ok, I lied. It's erotic now. Couldn't help it. And 24k words. Still looking if anyone is available!
I can sit back and enjoy sounds of chirping crickets too šŸ˜Š

Some of us crickets just don't have the multifaceted toolset you might need.:(

Have you considered bifurcating the story to get the help you need?

Assuming the likely reader/editor sticking points would be in the sex and the finer medical points *probably* don't intertwine with the parts that may squick, maybe excise off the much harder part to find help with (the medical) and seek out a reddit or similar that can "is this true to life" thumbs up or thumbs down it?

You would totally in your author rights to have weaved the two so tightly that *only* someone with a foot is both worlds could be a helpful guide as to what you want to accomplish. (and KUDOS for working outside usual boundaries!)

Thinking like a Michelin chef, is there anything bulky, laborious, or unskilled in the work you can unload to a sous chef (a standard editor)?

You might also consider the shared human experience nature of things and reach out to someone here who can offer advice on how they've felt seen, represented, similar but in their different, but challenging, scenario. No, it's not at all the same thing but it can help with tone and just general mindset (I get... nervous when writing to afar of my lived experience. Nervous can make for unmeaning blindness I find.) Those two tools haven't helped me smooth over gaps in knowledge but I do think they have a mitigating affect and can buy you some reader forgiveness.

Sometimes the earnesty of the trying is more important than nailing all the small details.

Those are some of the ways I work towards more difficult pieces and their aggressive goals.

Food for thought hopefully.

Thanks for the response. I'll definitely take this advice and not get too hung up on the little details.
Speaking strictly for myself, obsessing over details is often my inner critic's way of keeping me from doing the creative work. I try to keep in mind representation IS important and even if my attempt is utter nonsense, I know myself and my good intentions. If mine is a tire fire, maybe it aggros someone enough to write similar, needed representation, only better.

It's the long way around to the goal but like a toddler with one of those baby shopping carts, I helped!
