Why do they make things like soy-burgers? Wouldn't a true vegetarian refuse to even look like a meat-eater, even if the "meat" really is only vegetable?

It reminds me of the so-called animal rights people who wear faux fur. Wouldn't a true believer refuse to wear any fur, fake or not?

So, what are you a meat-eating carnivore or a granola-crunching vegetarian?

I'm an omnivore, meat and vegetables.

I don't know how many vegetarians feel, but for the kids who are being raised vegetarian, soy burgers, etc are wonderful.

i'm a semi-vegetarian... i just dont eat beef anymore... dont like it much anymore... i have found ground turkey to be pretty good

*Rips flesh from bone*

Definatly a meat-eating carnivore....

Cant live without that great source of protien.

Scruffy enjoys eating all types of meat. The younger the better. Mmmmm I love veal. Why? Because it's Vealy Vealy good.

:D

I crack myself up sometimes.

With all due respect, arn't these questions just a little assuming about why people may choose to be vegetarian?

I am not impressed with your reasoning here.

If it isn't meat, than it isn't meat, not matter what shape it is in.

Have you ever heared of Falafel? A Middle Eastern grain and bean pattie or (burger) thats origin predates 'burgers'.
'Burger' doesn't mean 'meat'. I don't see the word meat anywhere in there unless you say meatburger. That sounds bad.

It is a generic term, like milk.
That brings up the whole issue of the milk industry trying to claim that they have the rights to the term 'milk'.

Meaning they want Soy milk to have to be called Soy Beverage.

What are they going to call Milk of Magnesia.... Beverage of Magnesia?

Coconut Milk? Coconut Beverage?
Milk Duds? Beverage of Duds?

OMG! What the fuck does this have to do with anything??

Anyway...

Faux fur wearers are exemplifying that there are good alternatives to killing animals in a ruthless manner, such as trappers do, or raising them in harsh conditions.

Rephrase your questions and I may discuss this matter further.

I know I am not the only vegitarian here, but I know for a fact that each of us have different reasons for being one.....

Fair enough! I don't have a problem with people's choice as to whether they're vegetarians or not. I only question why they have to create ersatz meat products if they are ardently opposed to consuming meat in any form? Why do they want their vegetables to look like meat if they aren't, why not have them look like the vegetables that they really are?

If that's the case, then why make it look like fur? If you don't know it's fake, you would assume they were wearing the real thing. Doesn't that defeat your whole purpose?

Or like when Democratic men get up and bellow and espouse about women's rights and dignity right before they take an intern behind closed doors.

Sorry, just had too.

Starfish,,,

Burger may not literally MEAN meat,,, but meat is exactly what flashes thru my brain in conjunction with the word burger. The term pattie is what I associate soy or chicken with. I dare say that burger is a generic term as you suggested,,, but it is generic for meat in a pattie form to most peoples minds.

And the question posed is valid. Why shape veggies or plant products into something that typically represents a meat product? Same thing with soy sausage. Is this a craving being satisfyied in a diet choice compliant way?

Grew up on a farm in the country and had meat with every meal.

Give me a big slab of red meat, and make sure its still pink on the inside whaen it hits my plate

I don't eat meat but there are alot of Veggies I wouldn't eat too. So, I'm not sure what you would call me! LOL! :D

LMFAO! I think you both are right! :D

I haven't eaten meat in a long time but I'll be damned if I haven't been craving Double Cheese Burgers for the last couple of weeks.

That's because a double cheese burger is about the most perfect food ever created! :)

I drive by a Hardees every day on my way to work. I've been fighting a craving for a Mushroom Swiss Burger for the last two weeks.

I can feel myself slowly surrendering to temptation...

I always enjoyed the red meats but I am now just too unsure of the meat supply to risk eating it. So it's mostly veggie for me although I will eat well cooked chicken, turkey or fish.

Too true!

Good point! The number of people eating less and less meat because of fears of "mad cow disease" and " foot and mouth disease" is growing.

But I suspect neither Wendy's nor McDonalds has hit the panic button just yet.

A day at the dinner table

*MMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO*

Oh God damnit...will you stop mooo'ing when I am trying to eat you!!! *whacks it with a club8

Carnevious.....fresh blood soaked meat...yay.

veggie-only people with the whole ethical arguement really get me riled up, and im glad no one here as mentioned it. I mean, who are they to tell me plants aren't alive and sensient, for real, my dalia's definelty lean towards the sun :D
